Saw "UP" today. It was fantastic, and a very pretty movie to boot. The 3D was excellent and the story was great, and kinda sad, Took the family and my folks as well and everyone enjoyed it. Highly recommend it!

Last one I saw today: A Clockwork Orange
I'd recommend it. If you're old enough, definitely. Though I realise it may not be to everyone's tastes as it's somewhat slow to get going. I thought it was good though.
Last week I saw The Thing for the first time. Also awesome and recommended if you're old enough ;).

Is A Scanner Darkly a good film? I'm thinking of borrowing it from a friend who assures me it's the greatest film ever. It has Keanu Reeves, so I'm not sure what to think about that.

I'm not a Keanu fan, but the film is rather quite good. Enough so, I have it on DVD, the interpolated rotoscope's animated overlay makes it look quite distinct.

I agree, the film is excellent and I would highly recommend it. I saw it at the cinema, which made the film more visually impressive, and bought it on DVD immediately when it came out. I wish more films used this method, the style is particularly enjoyable and is underrated for its application for other films. For example, I believe it would bring a more graphically abundant style to when bringing to motion graphic novels or video game adaptations.
Last Film I Saw:
Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure. I've seen it so many times, but not for at least 10-12 years. Its somehow now so much more amusing, and I am going to adopt and use "excellent" "bodacious" and "party on dudes" more often. Plus the scene when Bill attracts Genghis Khan into the booth with a Twinkie is still as amusing it was back in 1988.

It's pretty good. Worth seeing, but I'd really recommend you read the muchmuchmuch better novel it's based on first or instead.

Saw Yojimbo over the weekend. Pretty awesome. Old subtitiled black and white Japanese samurai movie. Yeah, I'm weird I know.
Also watched a remake of Invasion of the Body Snatchers the other night titled Body Snatchers. Terrible.

Yojimbo (and to a lesser degree its sequel Sanjuro) are pretty ****ing well-known, brah. There's nothing weird about Kurosawa or Mifune. Plus it was the basis for many other famous films, especially A Fistful of Dollars.
You should see the Sword of Doom. Or something from Seijun Suzuki.

Yesterday, I've rewatched Last Action Hero, one of my favourite movies, and also one of the most underrated and misunderstood movies.
For those who haven't seen it, do not take it as a usual Arnie action movie, it's more a parody, using all the clichés of the action genre movies. And somehow, now that years have passed, it's becoming some sort of hommage to those films.

I love the bit when Arnie cleans himself off TAR with a tissue.

It's been a film week! I've just watched Kindergarten Cop. Oy vey.

The Thing (just awesome baddy / gore / atmosphere)
Shawshank Redemption (Stephen King fan anyway, this film sticks pretty closely to the book, and unbelievably good acting make it a classic)
28 days Later (Zombie movie done in the proper way)
and i might get the odd funny look....
The Mist (another Stephen King movie. The ending has split opinion completely - it differs from the book, and for me was just about acceptable. I aint gonna spoil it for those that haven't seen it - go watch!)

Strangely, I'm watching The Mist right now. Unfortunately, I spoiled the end for myself already (part of a discussion about certain types of film endings, someone posted a youtube link, I had no willpower...).

not 100% sure, but i think someone has created an 'alternate' ending thats closer to the book....cant find it on a quick sweep of t'internet, but its out there somewhere I believe.....

Is there not an alternate ending on the DVD? I'll find out when I finish it. About 2/3 through at the moment.
[edit] The special effects are particularly poor though, for a 2008 film. Par for the course with Stephen King adaptations though.
