Oh yes. This was quite a long time ago, but I'll never forget it. It's a long one, so grab a drink.

When I was in high school, I had a boxed copy of American McGee's Alice. At the time I had no computer available that was capable of running it past the install phase. Feeling defeated, I put the box away on a shelf in my bedroom, hoping that one day I might get the chance to play it.

During the same period of time, my sister's then-boyfriend was living with us. To cut a lot of unnecessary backstory out of this I'll sum up this guy as such: a real piece of work. Eventually both he and my sister moved out and got their own place. Not too long after that, I had access to a PC that could finally run my game!

But, there was one significant problem.

When I went to pick my game off the shelf it was nowhere to be found. I frantically combed over every corner of my bedroom, every nook in the house at large and still came up empty in regard to where the hell my game might've disappeared. I was considering the possibility that maybe I'd moved it elsewhere during a room cleaning, forgotten about it and it got "accidentally" scooped into a pile of trash. But there was something else lingering on my mind, the possibility that someone had stolen it.

The list of people capable of having done so was rather small and I went with the first person who sprang to mind: my sister's boyfriend. Of course, bringing this accusation forward meant that I was only met with incredulity from my sister and mother. Both seemed hellbent on convincing me that I was being suspicious for nothing and my sister attempted to reassure me that upon questioning her boyfriend he denied having pilfered my game at all.

A couple years roll by, eventually I'm out shopping with my mother. I stroll past a budget display of PC games and notice an interesting 2-pack: American McGee's Alice & Clive Barker's Undying. Still disheartened over the loss of my original copy of Alice, I buy the games. After what felt like forever, I was finally able to play my game (though I'd go on to enjoy Undying much more).

Multiple years even further down the line, my sister and her boyfriend call it quits. Bizarrely, I get messages over MSN messenger from him (he and I were far from what I'd consider "friends" of any kind) and after he gives me a spiel regarding issues not relevant to this thread, he brings up something that was very interesting to me:

He'd stole my game. The bastard had stolen it and stuffed it into a crawlspace that my sister never went in when she lived with him. For years my sister and mother had let me believe I was delusional and that this guy wasn't capable of something like this. Immediately after he sent me the message, I shouted as loud as I could: "I KNEW IT! I KNEW IT!" and fell into a fit of laughter that was equal parts vindication and insanity.

To know, at long last, that I was absolutely friggin' right about what happened to my game was satisfying - hollow, given that I had spent money on another copy - but satisfying nonetheless.

He eventually tells me he'll send the game back to me through my sister and he does. My sister tells me she was shocked he had it and swears she never knew he did until he'd given it to her. Upon learning the news, my mother was equally shocked to know he'd had it all that time.

In the end, I get it back (and still have it to this day). The box is a little worn, but is surprisingly still in one piece. The game CDs were likely never removed (I assume because he couldn't justify installing it on his own computer without buying another copy to cover it up) so it likely just sat in the crawlspace for years.

What I ultimately learned from the experience is: never doubt your own instincts.

Matewis: Here are a couple from that same site that shows it a bit better

Honestly it was just an incredibly lucky find. I looked up the first actor listed at imdb for the film, which is Steven Culp, and stumbled onto this weird site with loads of pictures of his scenes in the film :P
Damn it. Had I been around a few hours ago, I could have just given you this screenshot.

Actually borrowed a game to someone in elementary school which happened to be my favorite game sonic 3 and knuckles for the sega mega drive that bitchy guy sold it and he was so annoying to borrow it to him.
Then i pretty much gave up on the sega mega drive and gave it to my mothers boyfriend son and with like 30 games.Never got it back or meet him again since her boyfriend broke up with her.
Someone once dumped a box full of (mostly PC) games at my appartment, "for safekeeping". Lost touch with the guy, never saw him again. I'm actually a little worried something bad happened to him, I've still got his stuff (currently in my parents attic) if he wants it back, though.

So, I guess that's kind of the opposite of being robbed? I do seem to recall lending someone my copy of Quake II (I think) back in high school, which was never returned. But whatever, I never liked that game much anyway (and I have it on GOG now, fifteen years later!). If I'd lent them my complete in box copy of Monkey Island II, I might have been a little upset though. (I guess what I'm saying is, if you don't wish to lose your stuff, don't lend people things - unless you're comfortable with the possibility of never seeing it again.)

I've never been intentionally stolen from, as far as I know. The occasional cd or dvd has gone "missing" over the years, but I'm never sure if that's because I lent them out to someone or forgot to put the disc back in the case (and lord knows where it may have ended up then). Hey, I'm too lazy to keep track of all my stuff, it's just so hard. :-)

Matewis: you?
Yup. Several. It sucks. :<
I remember once buying a copy of Close Combat: First to Fight for the Mac from a Best Buy, for some reason something seemed a little off about the box. Sure enough, the box was empty when I brought it home, save for the manuals and a block of wood. Never again.
My original Dune 2000 CD was lent out - but never returned. That really hurts when one is a small-time collector of old games. Good enough reason to get it from internet then. :-)

Not stolen, but not returned... My SNES Zelda III cartridge...

I let an aquaintance borrow it, allegedly it has burn in a fire in their previous apartment, I did not bother to investigate on this fire ever happening as I got told about it months later upon asking back my stuff, with no easy way to check on the claim without searching old newpapers at this time, in those years I had no access to internet...

I still don't own the game anymore, which was a Christmas gift from my parents I cherished very much, both the cartridge and this among if not the best to date for me, episode of 2D Zelda's... Meh.

I've never had a game stolen but I lost a copy of Rampage: Total Destruction for the Ps2 after I loaned it to someone that never returned it. Not that the person did it maliciously, he was only a friend of a friend (so I didn't have his phone number or anything) and I left college before I had a chance to ask for it back.

That profile picture looks like an overly photoshopped TS3-sim though.

Actually Switchblade Symphony was first, they formed in 89, although they didn't really get popular until the mid 90s, which is still long before Harley Quinn got her modern look.

Funnily enough they (Switchblade Symphony) had a comic too (a one off I think).

Yep, that's what it is. Well, overly Paint.net/Cartoonized haha.
I had some music CD's swiped but not games.

I did lose my copy of Super Street Fighter II Turbo for the PC that I had lent to a friend when he got into an ethical disagreement with the local law enforcement. Wasn't real happy about that one.
