macuahuitlgog: It also happened in Germany. Now everything here is too fucking expensive, unless you are rich.

aymerict: In Canada too, prices go up constantly. I don't know how is it possible because we don't have the euro...
It seems like the prices in every country are going up, up, up and up. And people aren't making more money... I don't know what is going on... You have to be rich to enjoy life, nowadays, no matter where you live(unless you are not materialistic and think life is good if you have a lot of friends etc). Did 99% of the world become insanely greedy recently or something? Or have we just been spoiled and now we are facing reality?

And then our parents constantly tell us that they never had that much in their time and how good we have it now.
I know this isn't the same thing politically and I am very ignorant of European affairs so feel free to correct me, but I usually think of people in the EU bitching about the EU akin to people in the US who want more states' rights while bitching about the federal government. They call them racist, fringe group nutjobs here.

I would like to have rechargeable batteries and solar panels be the local currency where I live :)

aymerict: Not only is the euro not going to disappear, but when Poland joins the euro-zone in a few years, prices on GOG will probably be in euros too...

Titanium: Your point?

Zlots be bad?
Zlots are shit when converting into anything to the west of Poland and great if you're going somewhere east of Poland.
Hungary is the worst country of the EU .
avatar
Lobuno: The same happened here in Spain.

I bet it's not as expensive as Poland. Also, are you talking expensive as in "this was 2 marks now it's 1 euro! It's too expensive" or expensive as in the pay sucks and the prices are high?

Yeah, but my point was that since GOG opted for dollars instead of euros, after Poland gets the euro I don't see why such a change would occur. Especially since this is an international site.

"NEWS: Switching to Euro! $1 = 1 EU!". I wouldn't be surprised if they did switch to the euro. Who would want to deal in a weaker currency after your own country is dealing in euros?
Speaking of protectionism:

Poland should have seriously instituted some protectionist measures after the fall of communism. We used to make our own cars right in the capital city. Look up FSO Warszawa, I ride by that factory every time I go to see my aunt in another part of Warsaw. It sickens me to see something like that go to waste. I also am disheartened by the fact that almost all the supermarkets are either of French, UK, or German origin while the stores run by Poles are little tiny markets that get eaten alive by the various taxes. It's really bad when just about every damn car here is either German or French.

I'm talking expensive as this used to cost this and now the price is much higher, the pay sucks for most jobs and the prices are just too high. Germany may look like a paradise to some of you, but it isn't... But you guys in Poland have it 100 times worse, I'm guessing.

So how the heck do you know how many marks equal one euro?? It's not as if the Deutschmark is being traded on the forex market :D

Speaking of Germany being a paradise: I heard ya'lls trains run on time, the train stations are nice and clean, everything is efficient, cities are clean. Is this true or is it just outright lies?

timppu: From my point of view the "lazy" western countries have mainly two choices.
There is a third choice you haven't considered - War. If we were to go to war with China and Russia, we would say that the debt we owe them is canceled (we aren't going to pay our enemies), and we would destroy their emerging economy.

It's a nasty solution, but I worry it might be coming. It's just a question of how it starts.

I'll bet oil will be involved somehow, according to Fallout :P

You forgot Uranium. ;)

:p

Also IMO we should've "liberated" the poor ones in first China's outlying provinces/etc from their crappy rule and not Iraq/etc. Yes it'd be stupid to attempt such with China's armies & nukes, but still would have been a better use of all that Iraq War money in my opinion.

I know that a Deutschmark is less than a euro. And when Germany started using euros, stores just switched the currency from DM to euro. So if something that was originally 1 DM became something that costs you 1 euro, it became more expensive. German trains don't always run on time. German train stations are nice and clean in the big cities but in the small cities, they are not so clean. Some cities are clean in Germany, some cities are extremely filthy(no place to walk without stepping on dog shit, puke etc). Yeah, Germans don't like picking up their dog's shit. So in Germany, it all depends where in the country, you live.

How many German companies do you usually have in your country? How often do you find something with "Made in Germany", written in German, of course :P? Here in Poland, we are flooded with German food and Chinese everything else.
