I was forced to buy boogie for the PS2 because there are no decent USB microphones, otherwise I'm staying away from any EA games that have DRM, my girlfriend loves the sims 2 and I'll get her expansions still. But for me, personally. I am not really interested in their games for the most part.

Damn, the guy just doesn't get it. What kind of moron thinks pirates give a crap about DRM? Just more corporate double speak from JR. Seriously, I think his head's so deep in the sand you'd need an excavation crew to find it.

There's lots of forums for talking about the games on this site, and several threads in this particular forum. But if you don't want to talk about DRM, then feel free to skip over this thread. A lot of people feel it's an important issue. If you don't, that's your perogative.

C'mon now kids, don't rate his post down because of that. He's right in that there are a lot of DRM posts right now and it can be overwhelming when you don't want to discuss it.

EA, major publisher, plenty of games.
I may dislike EA, but will admit they have some good stuff in their catalogue. Due to the type of DRM they are using, I'll be buying from their competitors that walk down a nicer path until EA changes.
With words like this from their CEO though, mayhaps not even then.

It would be very hard to not purchase at least a few of their games, since the past year has seen EA release some really good stuff pc side. That said, Riccitello is a good businessman, but horrible at PR. He should stick to being behind the scenes.

There is quite a bit of abuse of that -1bbutton.
Anyway, it's right that it is another thread about DRM but it doesn't feel like it would fit as a subtopic for any thread, except for maybe the spore one..

John Riccitiello is the living evidence of the fact that videogame makers have got the same attitude of the recording industry and the movie makers: they are willing to consider their customers as "pirates" to not to risk to lose the theoretical control on contents they sell, a control that they have no more when it comes to digital world.

EA is just yet another corporate bully. Normally I don't go for this "Well they're pushing us to pirate, so I'll pirate their stuff" thing (I'm not saying anyone said this of course) when it comes to protesting the DRM. I've seen this response many times to the Spore DRM and Mass Effect DRM issues. But when the CEO actively insults his customers intelligence, I say the gloves are off and they should get their games pirated to hell and back. It's too bad they'll never get pirated out of business. At this point it doesn't matter, in his eyes we're all either stupid or pirates anyway and there's next to nothing that'll change his mind I'm sure.

Pirating a game as a counter-action to an, I admit, extreme DRM scheme is not the best way forward imo. As we've seen before, the publishers aren't going to sit back and maybe consider that their insane DRM schemes are perhaps not the best way forward... instead they are going to try to devise an even more restrictive scheme, that is more annoying to the legit customers.
The most effective action we as customers can take, is a boycot. Simply not buy their shit and not pirate it. Cause if you are pirating it, you essentially want to play it, so you're still a possible customer to them... they only have to make it hard enough to pirate and you might buy it right, at least that's what they'll think. An outright boycut sends a powerful message to publishers, that there is no way IN HELL we're putting up with this absolutely unreasonable DRM shit they're pulling off.

Actually, it will be very easy not to purchase any EA games. I dislike having my integrity and or intelligence questioned by someone who would like to have my money. And two upcoming titles had a better than even chance of me buying. Dead Space and Red Alert 3.

I think the reverse is true, here. I don't think comments like that are really aimed at us who spend the dollars, but are for the investors who want to make them. EA has been trying to downplay the ruckus for some time now and perhaps he is playing to the stockholders about how all this is just a few malcontents and camp followers making all the noise, so don't worry about it. But it doesn't seem like good business sense to insult the very folks you need to keep those investors happy, that being us customers.
EDIT: And I FULLY agree with what Ken007 said above, posting while I was writing my post. Don't buy OR pirate it, but just as important is to be vocal about it. Post around or even send email to EA corporate. Let them know they are losing your dollars, and perhaps the dollars of those you might have recommended the games to.

Problem with that is they're using piracy as the reason for strict DRM, so by pirating games, you're allowing them to continue using that same excuse.
If you do buy the game, you're supporting their idea to use DRM, or at least are indifferent towards it.
So you're kinda screwed either way... Low sales and low torrent activity would be the way to go, but something tells me publishers would blame piracy even then (UT3, for instance, supposedly killed by piracy. When there are more people playing even UT'99 online).
