DAMN how bad was it over there

Nostalgiac for it sometimes? Sure, yeah.

Listen, it was fun because it was so new. I mean the first time I used ftp to get a hold of some rare file i was so thrilled, and I get that I'll never get that thrill again. But, I have access to so much more right now. For example, Max Headroom - shortlived TV show that I liked locked in who's-got-the-rights hell for so many years. For a long time, the only place to get episodes was by a .mule sharing forum. people uploaded (painfully slowly) video files of vhs tapes of episodes they had made manually. yeah, that was cool and wild west and i felt all elitist and part of something special and all that. But, finally, a distribution deal got worked out, and people can access the goddamn show now without going through all the hoops. Thank God!

Also, I like the fast up and download speeds. I mean, a lot. Do you know how freaking long it used to take to download big files? And especially if the data line shared with the phone line? Goddammn! I don't miss that situation at all!

And, I like games. I've always liked them and I still like them. And there are more and they are easier to get and cheaper and faster to download and I can find hints faster now than ever before!

So, no, I don't miss the old days. I would never go back. Even though I did enjoy them when they were here, and I enjoy remembering them.

I remember also being able to call a gaming company and due to overhead they actually answered their own phones and you could talk to one of the developers personally about issues you would be having with their product.

I miss using telnet to log into CDnow so I could buy bootlegs.

Sorta miss the usenets a little bit, back when it was the only way to talk hockey with anybody.

That's about it.

I miss the nostalgia back then. Back in those days I used to be nostalgic about really important stuff, not the kind of stuff I'm nostalgic about nowdays. sigh...

Hell yes, you could search for anything back then and not get 3.5 million spam mails about enhancing your male labido even if you were looking for Nasa images....

the strange thing is i've been using the internet for a long time. however, when i read your post i almost understood none of it. i assume it was because of all the abbreviations and highly summarised sentences covering a whole range of different topics ;)

but yes, waiting ages for flash content, waiting an hour for a 30mb demo. being the first to have a router in the area. having broadband with no integrated router. unable to play games because they needed a minimum of 6mb vram. no video services, using DVDs. playing dos/monkey island. it was awesome!

To remember that stuff,you must be 110 years old :)

I only kind of miss the adventure of not knowing all a game's secrets by going online to find them out, specifically an open-world game like LEGO Island.

Close. I'm 69! Still feel like a kid. The Phiiie area didn't get TV until 1948. NYC had it in 1940!

I remember the wild west days BEFORE the internet, when I was the only one interested in using the PC. After the stupid internet my sister and mother constantly wanted their turn too.
