GOG was my go-to store before caving to the CCP. Enjoy your china money GOG, because you'll get none from me going forward.

shattenyagger: Sale ended; bought nothing. Hopefully wasn't the only one.
You weren't. You might want to have a look at this thread and add your name there: https://www.gog.com/forum/general/boycotting_gog_2021/post1

So where will you buy your games going forward? I don't see Devotion on any store...

I saw in your letter that you can't in good conscience support Gog's latest decisions with your money. So you might want to look at this thread and add your name there: https://www.gog.com/forum/general/boycotting_gog_2021/post1

Aver: From what I heard it's because the publisher still holds exclusive rights to releasing it on Steam, but they don't want to do that for obvious reason. Until the deal expires they can't publish it by themselves.
avatar
eisberg77: The publisher no longer exists, Chinese government put them out of business due to the game. The publisher as a Chinese publisher, and Chinese government shut them down.

So I don't buy your explanation at all.
Only Chinese publisher went out of business. Their worldwide publisher, who released game on Steam, Winking Skywalker is fine.

I'm on the list already.
It sounds scary to say that, I'm sure that list goes straight to the 100 acre woods.
Still no word from Gog. Meanwhile, on the chinese forum, you can hurl racist insults with impunity. If anyone wrote that on the english forum, they'd be permanently banned. But, eh, we can't neglect the chinese market, can we?

Though to be fair, pretty much every other poster shamed him/her for the comment.

Can we say the same thing would have happened here?

Probably. At the very least, sympathizers would not be given enough time to express their support before the post was deleted by the blues.

I'm really not. Culturally, I'm very much a Westerner. I probably wouldn't fit well over there.

However, that doesn't mean I don't have perspective. China isn't going anywhere and I find the amount of venomous anti-Chinese sentiment troubling.

I don't think anything good will come out of it. We really ought to try finding some common grounds.

I honestly have no idea what you mean in your four first sentences.

I am not expressing any anti-chinese sentiment, here or anywhere else, and know enough to distinguish between a people and its governing class. With that in mind, the government of the PRC is a threat to humanity. That does not make me a believer in any "yellow peril" theory.

From what I read in my course on Chinese history (I had 3 credits to kill that I could only take as elective outside my specialisation and it was the summer, meaning that pickings were slim... on the bright side, I think it broadened my perspective a little), their more recent political movement has very much been a reaction to Western and Japanese imperialism, which lead them to reject their traditional Confucian values in exchange for Russian-style Marxism.

That mellowed out considerable under Deng Xiaoping (who, while not flawless, seemed exceptional from what I read about him). We'll see what comes after Xi Jinping (who is not exactly a young man btw). One can hope he'll be more like the predecessor.

Countries tend to have ups and down depending on the leadership of the moment. Quite a shocking development across the ocean just recently! Nobody is immune to having a demagogue as head of state... you gotta stay vigilant.

Whoops. So you were. I checked everyone that I poked but must have misspelled your username or something.

Ah I think you're right about the list, but honestly I wouldn't worry too much. With all that is said worldwide about Pooh, his gang and those woods, our protests are comparatively tame and respectful. If actions were to be taken there certainly are much better targets than us. Even his resources are finite.

Apparently Steam launches official beta in China in 2 days. It's possible that after beta they will remove international Steam version from CN and maybe that's when the Devotion will be released again.
