I'd like it DRM free, though, to be able to back it up for long term future availability.

Musing: complaining(generally speaking) has some good effects. It can allow one to vent their stress and anger in a better(comparatively speaking) manner, it can bring the issue to light for others, etc.

avatar
Tbh even if the game was trash(bug fest, etc) i'd still be somewhat upset....it's the principle of the thing.

avatar
So what if they put some content in the game to take a jab at the CCP? That's much better than bending the knee, which is what most companies(gaming, etc) seem to do.

Turbo-Beaver: Detention is available DRM-free on Playism: https://playism.com/product/detention
Thanks

USERNAME:dycaite#Q&_^Q&Q#GROUP:4#Q&_^Q&Q#LINK:45#Q&_^Q&Q#Fair enough, I can see why that would be annoying. But that's certainly not all of us. I'm here complaining to GOG because this is an instance in which they can make a difference. And because it was their cowardice that caused the game to be pulled in the first place. Of course I am worried about the Chinese government interfering with other facets of our lives, but I am here for a specific reason and that's what I am focusing on right now.#Q&_^Q&Q#LINK:45#Q&_^Q&Q#

I know it won't, but I'm not going to come here and broadly complain about the Chinese government when GOG can't do anything about it, generally speaking. They CAN bring back Devotion, which would be a good start in ensuring that situations like this are pushed back on in the future.

I'm here to complain about a specific choice made by GOG, which I believe they are able to reverse. Broadening my complaints to be about the Chinese government in general would a) dilute our efforts to actually get the game back and have any real, tangible impact, and b) be something of a waste of breath considering who/where I am complaining to/at.

you know, at the end of the day, i still have the question that nobody seems to want to answer

if you dislike it so much, why don't you leave? why don't you stop gaming? if the situation makes you so angry, why don't you just quit, and stop giving money, time and attention to an industry that's corrupt, in your opinion? anything tech related was made in china at this point. by gaming, you are supporting china. there's no way around it. it's not like you need games to survive.

So because the complaints won't make any major change happen, they shouldn't be done and/or are pointless?

It's a start

Maybe for some of the same reasons why you don't seem to like/agree with "forum complaining" much, yet you still post to the forums and read the posts here.

Also, what you are asking is like asking someone with say 100 dollars who just gave 5 to charity "Why do you just donate 5 bucks to charity, and not the whole 100 dollars?"

It's the thought and the effort that counts more....even if each individual's "contribution" is small, if enough do the same thing it can be substantial when put together as a whole.

Because that would be the cowardly way out and I am not like GOG. We must make our voices heard on this or things will only get worse.

Because getting to buy a game in a store that barely has like 1% of all the revenue in pc gaming (which is already a fraction of the gaming scene overall) is going to solve major sociopolitical problems, right?

good idea. let's protest by giving money to chinese hardware dvelopers (whose product you're using to type these things) and chinese companies who own western developers (like tencent, who are here via paradox and others).

Oh, so another "let's sit back and do nothing" approach, because "everyone else is doing it anyway". Way to go, way to bring something meaningful to the discussion. Fuck's sake...

Maybe not, but still: I think such things are sometimes worth trying.

(also: many great things in history possibly never would've got off the ground and accomplished if everyone had such a defeatist mindset)

sanscript: I think it's only fair to give them some slack here since they are a girls-only club afterall.

I mean, they fired most of their male workers some time ago, so, it's only natural that their combined intelligence have been lowered to such a disastrous point.

dgnfly: If this is true, That would explain a lot about GOG's bias curation system, let alone the shit CDPR pulled at the start of the year with their virtue signaling.
probably true , it just feels like lazy twitter group: do minimal work , chat on twitter , ban everything i dont like, get paycheck

This specious argument has already been debunked numerous times, in particular in the first post of this thread:

Turbo-Beaver: It's one thing to buy from China. It's another thing to let China determine who you can buy from.

The former is fine. The latter puts anyone who agrees to it in a subordinate position.
Also note that:

Turbo-Beaver: Disney's very own Winnie-the-Pooh hasn't been banned worldwide, despite the company's huge presence in China.
As long as you can play a game banned in China on hardware made in China, this is a false equivalency, and repeating it doesn't make it any less false.
