As was said before, Interplay hasn't paid Parallax for about 10 years now. Unless Interplay ponies up the cash, these games won't be coming back (and that's extremely unlikely).

The other possibility is for Parallax to release the game files themselves as open source. This is probably a much more likely thing to happen.

Descent 1 & 2 source code was released a long time ago, which is why there are some good source ports:

This reminds me of the late beta days of GOG, where people were saying things like, "Why should GOG wait for the legal rights to sell old games? They should just put up the installers and wait to get sued so they know who the rightsholders are, LOL."

Damn. This again.

Yes they could release everything for free in source, but they would need to rename it something else, maybe like Overload, since that's the new game they're making as the spiritual sequel to Descent.

Also removing the music from Descent 2 and probably the GX Gyro design as that belongs to Volition (was under THQ)

If Interplay owns the rights to names like PTMC, they would have to change those in the assets as well.

It's also the only "spiritual" successor that actually plays just like the old Descents. All the others tend to add too many new features that just bog down the action.

I think you are jumping to a conclusion here like the other people. We don't know if he meant that GOG should just start becoming a criminal organization. He could have meant, GOG should fight back legally every time, a publisher tries to pull some shit. And such a knee jerk reaction do not make you qualified to judge if someone is being stupid or not.
