jdsgn: Trine is a good choice. And so is Torchlight!

advancedhero: But specifically Torchlight 2, as I believe the first game is single player only.
I play TL 2 all the time single player, how is the multi? How are the other people playing it?
The only game I've gotten my wife to play through co-op with me lately is Orcs Must Die! 2. Great fun (and normally she doesn't like shooters at all).
Torchlight 2. The game is very easy to learn and not very challenging. It's mostly just, click, click, click.

1nstant: I finally got some cash and was wondering which game I should buy. I play with a friend but they are pretty new at gaming. Anyone know any fun and easy games to play? Prefer Co-op where we can be in the same team and play together.
Borderlands 2

As the middle child of the series its the longer, edgier of the trilogy. Even though narratively speaking its actually the last chapter in the story so far.

Borderlands The Pre Sequel (newest in the series) is also worth a mention for the co-op experience, which is where that title shines. Its a bit more dry and difficult as a single player game than its older siblings and suffers some (imo unwarranted) criticisms.

The Borderlands series is all about co-op, but can be quite dull as a single player game. I recommend it because its cheap (now), looks amazing (to me), is fun and has surprising character class variation. it even caters to those who'd rather not bother with the whole 'aiming' aspect of a shooting game.

I played Borderlands 2 and all its expansion as Gaige the Mechromancer who pretty much specialised in missing every shot and relying on 'lucky' bullet bounces. Plus she has an awesome pet robot.

It has FOV controls, it has difficulty options, it lets you turn off mouse smoothing from within the games settings screen! My god its a PC game (series). There is a 3rd party app you can run that enables same system multiplayer on the PC. Split screen or mutli monitor if your computer can handle that.

thk47: Judging by your friend are new into gaming, Try Hammerwatch I find this game was fun for Co-Op, quite simple with control and PC requirement also not too high.
So much this!

PixelJunk Shooter is a good option too!
Hammerwatch is fun when you have at least 3 players to create interesting dynamics/social interactions but it does get tedious though. It is simple fun with some level puzzles but hard for me to recommend unless you're looking for something, simple. Depends on what you're looking for but I find that the game isn't challenging enough in the right ways which makes it less engaging.

Alternatively (non-GOG), try Lego Marvel Superheroes. Highly recommended if you enjoy the Marvel movies and definitely something new gamers can get into. There's also a open-world New York City which is great to explore as Iron Man etc.
