JCD-Bionicman: Man... it really doesnt help at all that pretty much every game on this website is given an insta-5/5 by no doubt clueless children.
You lie. There are 414 games on the site, of which 42 are rated 5 stars. Because your shriveled brain is apparently incapable of doing math, I'll tell you 42 is 10% of 414 (the recommended percentage of A's on a school bell curve, not that bell curves ever made sense in education). Go die in a fire, liar.

That was totally uncalled for....

Really now? Reread his post. He expresses his extreme disdain for the community and disregard for the ratings based on the vague quantification ("pretty much every game") he pulled out of his ass, then turns around and asks for recommendations from the very same community.

Yep... he even has -4 rep.
Maybe the fact that I don't feel offended because I never have reviewed a game here ^^'.
However he didn't ask the community to go die in a fire.

I think it's just so it can rhyme with liar.
Go die in a fire, you liar.
It's more about semantic that real meaning, see :P ?
Plus, asking people for recommendations or reading reviews and then getting pissed off about them is a bit daft as, let's face it, we all have different tastes.

For instance, many many people on GOG rave about The Last Express so I bought it because of that. That I absolutely DETEST this game with every fiber of my being and I've only been playing it for an hour isn't anyone on GOG's fault, or the developer for that matter. It's just my personal taste. The game does nothing for me and annoys me beyond belief.

You've got to admit, it doesn't make a lot of sense for someone to say to the community at large "Your opinions suck!" before turning around and saying "I demand that you tell me what game to buy!"

Well, I didn't accuse the OP of being logically consistent.

For example, all of the following are logically consistent stances expressed with varying politeness:

"Hi, I notice the 5-stars selection of games is rather small. Some of them are newly added and perhaps somewhat overrated by fans, and none of the time-tested classics really catch my attention. Can you recommend me an original TBS?"

"Hi, I want to play an awesome RPG. I think Baldur's Gate sucks and my PC can't handle either Witcher. What should I buy?"

(PM to specific user) "All those other GOG users are uneducated philistines who wouldn't know a good game if it bit them on the nose! However, I notice your taste in games matches mine. Can you recommend me an adventure game? I've already played TLJ and both LBAs."

"your all stoopid moo3 4evar"

I feel the same about the darkfall series.
As for the ratings on this site, I agree. What's the point with a rating system if 99% of games here are rated 5/5, a few 4/5 and very few 3/5. Then again, I never go after ratings when it comes to games. Games are about experience and you need personal experience to see if a game is for you.

To recommendations: Deus Ex series (wait with HR until your new computer), Thief series, Outcast (horrible engine but decent characters and plot), Beyond Good & Evil (great humour)
I didn't even know that you can have negative rep in here 'till now.

On the other hand, GOG used to be called Good Old Games for a reason, and not Gazillions of Old Games.

It doesn't matter at all, the point of a rating system it's suppose to be separating the bad from the good regardless of the initial standard that is set here.

Please explain to me how a system that basically rates everything 5/5 is suppose to help someone pick a game? Is one suppose to I don't know..flip a coin or go by a genre a person enjoys?

I'm quite glad that I don't follow a rating system.
