Man... it really doesnt help at all that pretty much every game on this website is given an insta-5/5 by no doubt clueless children. I tend to disagree with the majority of ratings anyways (COD anyone?).

Please none of the "which kind of game do you prefer" stuff please. Games of different genres CAN be compared in their quality. If you want to know, about the only games i don't like are sports, mindless shootem up (unless it's a good kind of mindless), and racing games. I like games with good stories, addicting gameplay, and decent graphics.

My computer is not very powerful, I will be replacing it within the coming months though. Until I do I would like a game that runs well on my computer so keep that in mind.

I have recently been browsing through GOG and looking at reviews on youtube if there are any, and have put a dozen games in my wishlist. I'll only include some of them, as some of them aren't capable of running on my computer or I am only somewhat interested in them:

OUTCAST: The graphics look horrible, which wouldnt bother me except that the artstyle is horrendous. The character you play as is a stick figure who moves like he's shat his pants. I hear the game is good though, even though searching for a review on youtube has not yielded anything.

Beyond Good and Evil: I was close to buying this before . The music is catchy, the gameplay is very much like Zelda in that it is addicting and unique (at least with how far I got in the demo) and I've heard the story is great. I heard there was an HD rerelease on the consoles and was wondering if the PC version featured here is supposed to be more polished as well.

Serious Sam I know little about, except that it's a funny and addictive first person shootem up. I heard there was an HD rerelease on the consoles and was wondering if the PC version featured here is supposed to be more polished as well.

Stranger's Wrath: Seems like the same premise of Serious Sam, but more odd. Don't know much, but looks legit.

Anachronox: Turn based gameplay, supposed to have a good story with comedic elements.

I have Thief on the list as well but not really sure about it. I remember playing the xbox port a long time ago and it was alright I suppose, seemed like a Splinter Cell ripoff at the time, though now I know better. I would be getting Contracts and/or Blood Money, but those sadly aren't here and I WILL NOT get them from Steam.

You can suggest you're own games if you want, but even if you do I would appreciate it if you could also select which game on my list you would prefer in addition.

Please try not to generalize information about a game you're trying to tell me about.
Sacrifice - Best voice-acting of any game ever, one of the best storylines, unique(literally) gameplay, beautiful graphic design, amazing music, most underrated game ever, costs 5.99.

Go for this one. It already sounds as if you've made up your mind about it anyway. And the game won't disappoint you. The PC version is not the re-released HD one... but from what I've heard, what the HD does is get the console version on par with the higher resolution PC version anyway.

That's a hard choice, you only listed games that I love D:
One thing that can help you decide: Beyond Good & Evil and Anachronox have cliffhanger endings. They're awesome games, don't get me wrong, but this can be a let down to you.
I'm with Licurg, get Sacrifice! One of the most unique and interesting games ever. It loosk nice, it sounds nice and most importantly it plays nice (and it has a very high amount of replay value)
I'm gonna have to disagree about Sacrifice. It's a nice game I suppose, played through it twice when it was released, but frankly it's mostly because I didn't have anything better to play back then. Never really enjoyed the gameplay all that much.

From your list, I'd go with Beyond Good and Evil. One of the best discoveries I've made on GOG. Loved the characters, the story and the overall atmosphere of the game. Gameplay is pretty good too. That being said, I haven't played Anachronox or Stranger's Wrath.

If you haven't played Ultima Underworld yet, then I'd recommend that too. It's the spiritual predecessor of the System Shock / Bioshock / Elder Scrolls games, and IMO it outshines them. Probably my personal favorite game of all time. It's pretty old however, and the controls can be a bit of a turn-off. (I played through it almost exclusively with the mouse, only using the keyboard when I had to look up or down or type words/numbers)

If you don't get Little Big Adventure 2, I'll drown a puppy in the river.

Convinced yet ?

JCD-Bionicman:
I'm a bit hesitant to offer you advice, since you sound really agitated that some games aren't what you want.

For instance judging Outcast on its graphics and animation for an old game that doesn't use 3D accelleration. I challenge you to find a better looking non accellerated game of that period.
Then Thief, you say it is a Splinter Cell ripoff, judging you played only the 3rd game I give you some credit, but other than that you couldn't miss the mark more as it is the other way around, altough even then I would have used the more respectable "inspired."

Still I can agree with you somewhat as for me if I would buy 10 games, 5 of them are perhaps somewhat amusing, 3 of those 5 are actually good, and 1 of those is a game I really really like, so that means I wasted money on at least five games that collect dust on my shelf for no good reason.
Beyond Good & Evil is excellent and well worth the price of admission. I have not played the HD re-release, though from looking at screenshots I can tell you that the fidelity is about on par with the PC version. Keep in mind that the PC version does not feature native gamepad support, but the mouse and keyboard controls work just fine (there is not much precision-style gameplay). Oh yeah, the GOG-wrapped version runs fine on my Windows 7 machine without issue. Cannot say the same for the non-wrapped Steam version.

I think BG&E is worth looking into because it has the absolute greatest portrayal of a female character I've ever witnessed in a video game. Jade is a capable, strong-willed lead who's never subjected to the sexist stereotypes we see all too often in video games. Her feminism is never overwrought, yet always there. I think it's a wonderful video game in its own right, and becomes a standout when you take the lead character into account.

Ok lets correct some misconceptions. Splinter cell ripped off Thief considering Thief basically created the genre. Next, Beyond Good and Evil supports HD out of the box on GOG so there is no point getting this mythical new one.

With that said I recommend you try the demos for Thief and Thief 2. Don't know if you will like the game or not so give them a go and decide for yourself.

Now I would recommend Blood. It plays a lot like Duke Nukem 3D, but has a really cool setting and the protagonist likes to spew obscure horror movie references. Has a very b-movie feel and some of the best atmosphere in a game that is about shooting things and kicking around zombie heads.
BUY ME BONESTORM OR GO TO HELL!

...

on a serious note though, get BLOOD, it's an amazing shooter

It'll give you common interests to discuss on those rare occasions you run into a single lady.

XD

Oh, sorry - you meant GOG specific games.

Very difficult to suggest - It's all subjective really.

For example the one reason I turned down Anachronox is that it's old school RPG turn-based (I was hoping for another Omikron) and I got sick of those back during the PSX days but that aspect might be the only selling factor for someone else.

I'd highly recommend Beyond Good and Evil. Fun gameplay, great atmosphere, good visuals (the art style made them survive the test of time very well), good story and memorable characters (story gets a bit weak right at the very end, but otherwise keeps you going throughout the game). Basically it's one of the few games I recommend to everyone regardless of the person's genre preferences.

Also, while not on your short list, I'd highly recommend Psychonauts, for pretty much all the reasons I recommend BG&E (plus some great humor).
There was no "misconception" regarding Thief. What I said was:

"I remember playing the xbox port a long time ago and it was alright I suppose, seemed like a Splinter Cell ripoff at the time, though NOW I KNOW BETTER."

Regarding Outcast, I said I don't mind bad graphics: it's the stupid looking animations and artstyle that bother.

Also, why do things like quoting work so weird on this forum? If I try and edit the vanilla quotes in any way it gives me an error.

Anyways, so far, it looks like the winner is either Thief, Beyond GE, or Stranger's Wrath which looks like it has that fun combine-and-conquer type of gameplay that Bioshock has with plasmids+guns.

Which game would last me the longest? Thief Gold?
