It's time for the fifth and the last contest in our "GOG.com Contest Week". We've already received lots of entries for the previous ones and we're sure with this contest it will be the same :). This time we wanted to re-run a contest which we did some time ago on our Facebook page - we'd like to ask you to prepare a GOG.com ad. Use your imagination, crazy photoshop or paint skills, the GOG logo and come up with something beautiful and funny like this ;) or creative like this and send it to users@gog.com until Wednesday, October 13 at 11:59 p.m. EDT.

From all entries we will pick 3 winners:
the winner will receive Activision catalogue
1st runner up will receive the games from JoWooD catalogue
2nd runner up, thanks to our friends at PC Gamer, will receive a PC Gamer UK subscription.

Creativity for the win!
Why can't I see the "beautiful and funny" example, is it because I don't have a facebook account? The "creative" one displays fine.

No, the image is gone from their facebook page, or at least i can't find it.

GorgorothX: Well since everyone is sharing, here's what I sent in as my entry.
Copyright may well be an issue here, but I just can't help myself when it comes to pissing off Halo fanboys with my GIMP "skills" lol. ;)

Daedalus1138: I may like Halo quite a bit, but I actually thought your picture was hilarious.
Thanks, man

sammyf70: If you need fonts, check out www.dafont.com . plenty of *free* ttf fonts there, many of which are quite good :)
www.urbanfonts.com has quite a few badass fonts as well. It's where I found the Duke Nukem-esque font. Oh and it's free too.

Cool! Didn't know that one yet :)

iliand: The left one is great :D

(still waiting for any lifesign of the photographer for mine :/

iuliand: My humble entry is attached in two versions.
I just could not decide between the two text variants so I've sent both of them.
Btw, which one do you think is better?
Both are cool but I'd go with the one on the left.

Thanks guys I'll have to check out those fonts. I used to have a CD full of good fonts at one stage and I'm not sure what happened to it, I suspect I loaned it to someone and forgot. Suffice to say on later viewing old documents they no longer looked quite as good :)

GoJays2025: I'll share mine too...
Great idea. Cheers.
Right this is what I came up with, hopefully it's good enough.

That. Is. Win. I liked my entry but I actually hope yours takes the prize. Great retro schtuff!
I'm new to gog.com, but I thought I'd give this contest a shot anyway. I was inspired by the classic Interactive Fiction genre for my advertisement. I know I should have spent the time to fix up the blemishes around the CRT screen, I hope everyone can look past them.

I've attached my entry as a JPG file (the PNG wouldn't fit) for everyone to see. I'm assuming it's okay to post them here before the contest ends, as everyone else seems to be doing the same. Tell me what you think ;).

EDIT:
I took a break from studying, and I also came up with a "playable" version of my advert, written in Python. I've uploaded it here (as GOG.COM won't let me attach it) https://sites.google.com/site/laseredd1/laseredd_gogcom_ad.py.

I've also put together a video of this playable version. It's around 700kb. I've uploaded it to my Google Sites page here (I had trouble uploading it to YouTube):
https://sites.google.com/site/laseredd1/laseredd-gogadvert.wmv

I don't know if I'm allowed to submit these after I've already submitted my photograph, but I've sent it in anyway.

Between MS Paint being my best graphics program and my abysmal creativity, I think it's best I sit this one out lest I convince the GOG staff that I'm mentally challenged.

Good luck to the rest of you guys, some of the ads I've seen so far are excellent.

as i said, use gimp, its free, but great :)
Figured I'd give this a go despite my non-existent graphic design skills!

The main thing that jumps out is the 'press gog.com to continue' when the phrasing was usually 'enter ______ to continue'.

The second one is unclear about what you mean.

Personally with an image like that I'd have gone for a funny line. Probably something about neglecting the kitty because the games are so cheap (kitty being a slang word for a fund of money). Something like 'the gremlins stay inside our games' could also work, although it might be more difficult to get a clear message across with that little space.
I didn't enter any of the other comps but I do like mucking about with graphic design. Here's my entry, sent in yesterday.
