WRATH: Aeon of Ruin is coming soon, DRM-free.

You are Outlander. Once adrift upon the Ageless Sea, you now find yourself on the shores of a dying world. From the consuming darkness emerges a figure cloaked in white, the Shepherd of Wayward Souls, who burdens you with the task of hunting down the remaining Guardians of the Old World. You must journey into the vast gloom to explore ancient ruins, discover forgotten secrets and battle the horrors that lurk within.

Fueled by legendary Quake 1 technology, the veins of WRATH pump with the DNA of revered '90s shooters. WRATH embraces the timeless elements of classic titles such as DOOM, QUAKE, DUKE NUKEM 3D, BLOOD, UNREAL and HEXEN and carries them into the 21st century.

Or whatever the new title is going to be once they make their big announcement.

I can't wait for this. Gimme now, PLEASE.
This actually looks nice and doesn't seem to have that much in the way of system requirements, unlike Amid Evil. The art design, especially the weapons, looks WAY better than whatever Dusk is trying to do. I'm wishlisting this, for sure.

Sadly, developed by "Quake scene devs" probably means it's another one of those highly competitive FPSes catering to the "über l33t pr0s" from back in the day, the modders, the speedrunners, the "Good Old Entitled Elitists", and, once again, people like me, who just... you know... liked the games? will be left with a game that could be good but it's only geared towards the "h4rdc0r3". Seriously, devs out there, just make a game EVERYONE can enjoy, already. Amid Evil could potentially be that game, but the sys reqs are downright ridiculous, Dusk is clearly not it, Ion Maiden (or whatever they'll call it, after the lawsuit) is and isn't -- it's not even a "proper" Build engine game, it's made by the EDuke32 guys, so it used that "source port" version of Build that's poorly optimized: Build would have ran flawlessly on my PC, their highly modified version of it just... doesn't.

Sorry for the rant, it's just that I'm getting really tired of all the retro-ish FPS overload, and none of them seems to take the more casual fans into consideration. Not everyone out there is a speedrunner who ejaculates at the thought of modding a game.

TheMonkofDestiny: As long as it doesn't get shafted like Bombshell did when it came time to update the game, I'm all for it.
yea they ejected this game (and rott2013) like an overloaded warp core.

"Capped at 666 FPS."

That is probably enough to make me buy it on release XD.

TheGreatDustpan: Excellent. Glad this has finally been confirmed for GOG.
Precisely. Instabuy immediately once it´s released.

Lol some isn't very good at shooters.

Magmarock: Lol some isn't very good at shooters.
Lol someone is a douche canoe.

This is precisely my point. I didn't need to be "good at shooters" to enjoy them. I could be whatever I wanted to be and no one made me feel bad for it. It's a freaking video game, who cares if you're good or bad? As far as I'm concerned, you have to suck at life to try and make up for it by being "good" at video games, a completely irrelevant skill.

I don't think I'm particularly bad at shooters, I'm about average, but, then again, I wouldn't really know, because I never played any of them competitively or even online. But that's my issue with this: I know A LOT of people who just liked playing these kinds of games while we were growing up but we were never a part of any "scene", we just liked video games, we weren't obsessed with them and we didn't build our lives around them. We didn't keep tabs on how long we played, we played until we decided to play something else.

And if the hardcore FPS "scene" fan reaction to an honest concern by a more casual fan of the genre is "lol some [sic] isn't very good at shooters", then I'm glad I'm not a part of any "video game scene".

Magmarock: First Amid Evil, then Dusk, Prodeus, Iron Maiden and now this. GOG is getting quite the list of games. I want all of them you hear... ALL OF THEM!!!!!!!!!!
Too many for me instead, I'd like to choose the best ones of the bunch.

That's why you usually have a difficulty selection when starting a new game.

idbeholdME: That's why you usually have a difficulty selection when starting a new game.
Well, yes, this would be the case in any of the classic FPSes we all grew up playing, sure. But these new retro ones seem to do this as more of an afterthought, and the lower difficulties aren't actually that much easier, at least compared to how FPSes used to be, back in the day.

But we live in a time where you're either a "proper gamer" obsessed with showing everyone how good you are at games and the "git gud" mentality, or you're an absolute casual who couldn't care less about video games and mostly plays on mobile platforms and devices. There's nothing in-between, a bunch of people don't get anything made "for them", because they only seem to cater to one extreme side or the other.
Nice! I was also hoping to see this here, and like others have mentioned already I'm also glad to have not only Wrath: Aeon of Ruin here on GOG but also Ion Maiden; Prodeus; and a few other new "retro" FPS games. But I'm mostly interested in this one and Ion Maiden to be honest.

Now we're just missing the good old ones, like: Chasm: The Rift; Marathon 2: Durandal; Witchaven; Heretic; Hexen; and Exhumed.

That, to this day, there's still people waiting/hoping for a long promised but never delivered 1.3 "definitive" update to be delivered to Bombshell is just depressing in every sense of the word. The Steam forums for the game are littered with jokes about it, that's how long it's been since the acting 3D Realms VP made claims that it was being worked on and eventually going to be delivered to storefronts that sold the game. It's oddly fitting that a game initially intended to serve as a replacement to a franchise they lost in Duke Nukem essentially became as much of a joke as the last "official" new installment in that series and this time 3D Realms doesn't even have Gearbox as a scapegoat to fall back on for it.

Hopefully Wrath, whether it turns out to be actually good/fun to play or not, fares better. Otherwise the Interceptor-infused current incarnation of 3D Realms might want to consider hanging its hat up for a while when it comes to being hands-on in the development world and only offer cash and oversight to people who can deliver a product that can actually be maintained for more than 6 months (at best) after wide release.

Aye, one of these days maybe. But until then, I'll just have to keep on dreaming.
