AndyBuzz: The gameplay trailers don't fill me with much confidence. The way enemies block in a fraction of a fraction of a second, but then later slog through every movement and attack is gamey as fuck and not engaging.

The trailer is gorgeous though and very enticing, precisely because doesn't involve combat.
Hordes of muppets for the player to carve through, does not a good story (or immersive game) make.

CharlesGrey: Yeah, what I've seen of the combat so far ( which wasn't much ) left me rather unimpressed. I hope the final gameplay will have more depth and variety. The art direction and overall atmosphere seem great though. I'll wait for the release and see how it turns out. Does anyone know what "coming soon" means, in this particular case? It's not the Crawl version of "soon", is it?
Well NT didn't tell what is the release date so is still to be announced and they think it's coming soon. :)

shmerl: Do these developers answer questions, or they are usually not talking to the community like legacy publishers funded ones? I couldn't find any forum on their site.
They really do not have the staff to answer questions constantly. Watch the dev diaries. They have about 25 people, and are self-funding this. They are all literally doing everything, from research to sounds to camera work. They've put their heart and soul into this game but have little time for anything else.

I tried askimg them about the potential of releasing their game for Linux, but got no reply. Their development diaries don't have any info on that.

It is wonderful to see that Ninja Theory seem to really care about creating a visually beautiful game with amazing sound design and an interesting story and premise.

Senua, the game character, looks just amazingly expressive, and Melina Jürgens’ (the actress) performance is so visceral and emotionally engaging.

The binaural sound representing the voice hearing is genuinely creepy and unsettling at times, the visual hallucinations, the pattern searching also look very intriguing.
And on top of it all they appear to treat the common but often misunderstood problem of mental illness in a rather mature and realistic way. They seem to have invested a lot of research and time into getting these things as “correct” as possible in a gaming context.

I hope the storytelling and development of the character are on par with the rest. If the development diaries and in-game footage that was already shown are any indicator for the quality of the end product, then this has the potential for a fantastic game.

I wonder if this one gets VR support? They did release a 360 stereoscopic version of the trailer, and they have worked to get enough framerate in VR. They also sounded pretty enthusiastic about VR. Of course, they said that their VR trailer didn't mean that the game itself would have VR support, but they didn't deny the possibility either.

Still, it's a small team, and a good VR version of the game might require too much additional work.
I'm always glad to see a new game from Ninja Theory!
Just who I'd want to bring to Ragnarok - a frail little girl (other than Lina Inverse). Since when did Celts believe in Ragnarok anyway? Give me a proper Christian Crusader (who also wouldn't be there) with a mace and some spiky bits. =P

/criticism

Honestly, the game looks impressive. Seen more cutscenes from dev diaries, along with some design decisions, and it looks like a solid experience - worth every bit of the asking price and probably more. Exciting, gorgeous... if they can manage bug-free at launch it'll be a hat trick. I don't care if it's short (don't know that it will be, but seems reasonable) - it beats paying $300 for neverending Warhammer Total War DLC crap.

Now just hope she isn't some neo-hippie SJW man-hater like in Horizon: Zero Dawn (even though they look similar), and we'll be in business! =P

If you would have followed the game development at all then you would know that Senua is a Celt whose village got raided and pillaged by Vikings, which also led to the loss of her loved one. The whole raid traumatized her and was finally the trigger for her to develop psychotic symptoms. Hence the hallucinations, voice hearing and all the other strange stuff that’s happening in the game. The develop team put some nice effort into the development and did some research about psychosis and its side-effects, which is finally an interesting idea. Just watch their development diary on YouTube to get an idea.

It’s not about “hippie SJW man-hater” stuff, whatever that’s supposed to mean.
If a female game character already triggers you so much, go to the Reddit red-pill forums and rant there about how evil the world of “feminazis” and “misandrists” is. Maybe this GOG forum thread is the wrong place for that.

Or just don’t assume so much before actually knowing a little bit about the game’s premise.

And if that’s too much to ask for, just don’t buy the game and buy Mount and Blade: Warband instead. Then install the “Sands of Faith” mod and play as a crusader. There you can kill all the infidels you want with your bad-ass mace.

I am thinking about getting this but worried about the patching issue with GOG\
