Prepare yourself to conquer the Old World in this historical, epic strategy game from Soren Johnson, Lead Designer of Civilization IV and Offworld Trading Company. Old World is coming soon to GOG.COM
Oh, great news. Been very close to picking it up on EGS, but had been hoping it'd be available elsewhere.
[kicking myself for already having bought the game on Epic since I never imagined it would appear on GOG]
So for the people who picked it on EGS how does it compare to CIV?

Maxvorstadt: Hm, I ask myself, if this will run on a i7 3770?
avatar
Mortius1: That processor is 4 core hyperthreaded 3.4Ghz + turbo (3rd gen)

Minimum processor requirements are Core i5-6400 (6th gen)

That is a 4 core non-hyperthreaded 2.7GHz + turbo. by a slightly greater amount.

Although the 6th generation processor is slightly more faster on a per clock basis, the hyperthreading and higher clock speeds of your processor would make it faster.

So yes it will run.
I can't say how well though.

On the other hand, If you are asking whether it will run on the i7 3770's integrated graphics? The answer is almost certainly no, unless of course you are happy with a resolution of 16 pixels by 9 pixels.
Well, I have a NVIDIA GTX 960 with 4 GB V-RAM. :-)
I asked the question, because Shadow Warrior 2 runs pretty good on my system, although the minimum processor it needs is a 4th (or was it even 5th?) gen one. So I always have the hope, that my i7 is better than an i3 or i5 from newer gens for playing a specific game. But I can never be sure, that`s why I ask, before I buy. :-)
Nice to see the Civilization meets Crusader Kings game coming here.

It'll be interesting to see whether Hooded Horse will also bring their 3 upcoming sci-fi strategy games Falling Frontier, Terra Invicta, and Alliance of the Sacred Suns games here as well.

Considering that strategy games tend to be much more CPU-dependent it's a bit odd to throw an FPS comparison in there.

IronArcturus: Will the game have a skirmish mode or map randomization?
Eh? Civ style games are by definition sandbox games, or what one would call "skirmish mode". I'd rather ask if it has a campaign :P.

And yes, it comes with a random map generator according to the IGN review.
Look like it is one unit per tile. Could be interesting (more interesting than stacks of doom). But also could lead to bad AI behaviour.

Good news that there is hotseat. If LAN play is available (without a server check)) and no game breaking bugs a new CIV 4 replaced is born.

Welcome old world!

Yes, LAN would be cool.

TT_TT_TT_TT: As i was really really disappointed by CIV6 i will definitely keep this in my sight and maybe it will be able to replace CIV4/5 for me.
Yepp, but I am a bit sad that they focus only on ancient/classic times. Civilization has always been about the epic quest of humanity - creating a civ that ''stands the test of time' and 'lead people to the stars'.

Maybe they will add expansions that implements additional ages.

It's an excellent game. I highly recommend it. I've owned it since Early Access and prefer it to Civ and Humankind.
"Weekly challenges"? Looks like the game needs to be always online, which is a big "Nope!" for me.
Can somebody tell, if one can play this game offline or if one has to be online to play the full game, without any content cut away? Right now, it sounds a bit Hitman-ish to me!
There are other games on GOG that have weekly/monthly challenges. e.g. The Colonists. No, it doesn't need to be "always online". It needs to be online for the challenges, obviously...how would it work otherwise? It's not like you can submit scores telepathically or something.
No, nada, nope. Not going to happen. Not going to buy this game.

I enjoy having free time and going outdoors, and a this thing would consume my life.

Last time I did a light session of Birth of the Federation, I showed up an hour late for a final with no sleep the night before.

A really smart game would make the weeklies/dalies completely local and only have score submission as a happy afterthought.

In Offworld Trading Company you need Galaxy to access and play Daily and Infinite Map challenge modes. In OTC there is also a piece of software called Tachyon.exe, Stardock Entertainment advanced stat-tracking software, being present, requesting access to the web. This, according to my friend who owns this game, can be denied at any time without consequence.

I expect that in Old World Single-Player-Online Challenges, daily, weekly or whatever this game will offer, as well as MP: Hotseat, Cloud Play, Asynchronous, Teams and what they call Comp Stomps, will also only be accessible via Galaxy. Or locked behind it for not better reason, depending how you are inclined to look at it.

You don't have to worry about pure Single-Player content. This will always be available without access to the Internet.

well if the "old" times are really fleshed out it might be nice as well. Depending on my mood and playstyle in given playthrough i sometimes found the earlier stages passing "too fast" in CIV without that much meaningful happening. Also really important for me would be how the AI turns out - while never being that much of a strong point of CIV in CIV 6 i was utterly disappointed by it
