Wrong snake, methinks. The common European viper/adder, V.berus, seems to fit better, as platirhinos is American, weird-looking, and infrequently refered to as a black adder. Extra points would have been given if instead it were the actual snake they used in the Blackadder II titles to spoof I, Claudius.

Thanks for the giveaway! I had no idea what the answer could be until I saw his name in the "Esgaroth" wikipedia page and remembered I had seen the name in the Discovery of Heaven page too.
