ah i got ya yeah they really need to control their budgets.
Why do we still care about what Cliff B says? He's just as stupid as Cervart Yerli (or something like that) from Crytek. Always saying the same BS.

"Oh look, these poor publishers are starving, they have no money, no food, no shelter and no water. WE HAVE TO HELP THEM". Give me a fucking break. Why are games the only entertainment industry in which second-hand is suddenly a bad thing? Books, movies and music have always dealt with it and are still alive. Even my Kaspersky key can be transfered to another PC for fuck's sake.

Things like these make my respect for Nintendo grow even more. You know what Miyamoto and Reggie said about how they'll deal with the second-hand market? By making better games. This is how it should be. But don't get pissed when people sell their Aliens Colonial Marines copies to purchase decent games.

Elenarie: And the iPad is a PC
Then why is it (and other tablets) referred to as a "post-PC" device? How can you be part of something that you aren't? ;)

PC stands for personal computer. Your smartphone is a personal computer. They all have different form factors, operating systems and interfaces to better perform the tasks they were designed to perform. The rest is marketing bullshit.

They have different form factors, operating systems and interfaces to limit the tasks an user can do!

If you have a computer, the old-fashioned one, the natural question is "what can I do with this machine?" The hardware is the only limit.

If you have a tablet, a smartphone or other shit like this the natural question is "what app can I download?".

A lot of stuff is made up by tech media, often in conjunction with fans, and doesn't come from marketing. People just enjoy coining terms which can be inserted to make them look smart but aren't really well defined. Defining stuff and then arguing that you're right because your definition matches itself is classic internet "discussion".
Touch-screen control is completely different than mouse-control and no amount of fudging about "phones/tablets are PCs!!!11" can change that fact. Games made for mobiles and tablets for example must have huge GUI's in order to be properly functional, a mouse cursor is much, much more accurate and intricate than a human finger. For example see the "Enhanced Edition" of Baldur's Gate for iPad/PC, the GUI was designed for tablets first, so on PC using widescreen resolution the GUI is ugly and low-res.

Any attempt to design a game for both PC and tablets/mobile at the same time, will almost always result in a big hideous chunky UI on the PC version. The only exception would be if a separate GUI for both tablets and PC was created, taking into account the larger resolutions and the differences between mouse and touch control.

I personally hate browsing through Websites with Tablet oriented interfaces, I hope that GOG does not redesigned this website more tablet oriented, screwing people like me who uses Desktop/laptop.

If you want to be pedantic, yes. Like "hooker" is obviously someone who either makes hooks, or puts things on hooks. Not someone who sells sex services.

In the real world though, "PC" is specifically used for x86 compatibles usually running a MS operating system by default. One may have replaced the MS operating system with e.g. Linux.

If you ask a "Mac user" whether he is a "PC user", for some reason he/she probably says "Hell no!". Or in this forum, when we talk about "PC games", we don't refer to IPhone or Android games.

I thought a hooker is something you use to snort cocaine off of. I stand corrected, thanks man!

GaminggUy45: Yeah i don't know what cliff has against PC.
It's all about $.

Look at all of this:
Gears of War 1 PC didn't sell well (since many probably already bought it on the Xbox);
PC gamers (rightfully) complained about its poor performance on most PC's upon release (and how its stuttering issues and texture-pops never got fixed);
and how heavily Gears 1 PC was pirated.

That all should explain why he wasn't so keen on PC gaming, back in the day...

Also, he made a comment who is going to win the platform wars - Valve:
http://stickskills.com/2013/06/19/bleszinski-valve-will-win-the-console-war/

Also, why would Cliffy B speak-out against used games?
Obviously $ - if you kill used market (like PC gaming more or less has done and gone mostly digital - especially w/ services that tie games to an online account like MMO's, Steam, and Origin do w/ their DRM) - more $ will go to the dev's & publisher, and any distributors/middle-men.
I'm sure cutting out middle-men at Retail when games go digital (at Retail, they have to manufacture the discs + manual + get the case; some company ship them to retail stores; employees at retail have to mark-up game on the shelves + work at registers; etc) and used games = this saves LOTS of $.

I'm sure on the PC, that's why EA has Origin; Valve has Steam; Blizz has BNet; UbiSoft has UPlay; etc - these 1st party digital distributors can just try to flat-out cut-out retail. More $ for them through their service, as it just cuts out the middle-men (that you'd have at Retail).

Do you really think GameStop (and any stores like it selling used games) would give a cut to dev's & publishers? HAHAHA! This is where GameStop (and stores like it) make their money (100% on sales for used games; as opposed to the supposed up to 10% or so they make off new copies). Of course this is why GameStop (and stores like it) push used games like crazy!

Dev's and publishers are spending tons of $$$ on developing & marketing these games - probably spending WAY, WAY, WAY too much - especially in the AAA arena. Just ask Square Enix about this, if you catch my drift (see how well Hitman: Ab + Tomb Raider 2013 + Sleeping Dogs sold, but it somehow still wasn't enough - as they still reportedly loss over $100M). Look at all the studios closing over the years - Troika; Bizarre Creations; Big Huge Games (Baltimore) + 38 Studios (Rhode Island); Vigil Games; etc etc. Not every company can spend lots of $ and make it back in record time & they be VERY profitable like say COD games + GTA games often do.

Let's just face it - used games; piracy; DRM are always going to be controversial issues, no matter what side of the fence you sit on w/ these matters. {shrug}

Wasn't the PC port of the original Gears of War also saddled with GfWL? I think I remember reading a lot of complaints about people who couldn't play it because of login issues, or something like that. Plus, I think it also ran pretty poorly too.

Yes sir!

Add that to the list of things I mentioned, too about why Gears of War PC didn't sell so hot - many PC gamers just don't care for G4WL.
And it's not like M$ ever overhauled the service into something even half-way decent over the years, either.

PC gamers prefer...almost anything - or even no service - over G4WL.

EDIT:
Yeah, w/ G4WL - there can be log-in issues; issues w/ even getting G4WL even booted; issues w/ G4WL updating its service properly; issues w/ G4WL even connecting; and (worst of all) saved-game corruption issues.

Batman: AC and AA; FO3; and Gears 1 PC are known for having issues w/ G4WL w/ save-game corruption.

I've never had many issues w/ G4WL...
{knocks on wood some more}

Worst I've had to deal w/ on G4WL was re-installing it a bunch of times b/c it wouldn't update properly or connect to G4WL itself properly.
