"Hey, I think you got some RTS in my RPG!"

"I beg to differ--I believe you got some RPG in my RTS."

Whichever way you like it, Spellforce Platinum is a fantastic classic RPG / real time strategy game with a collection of choices--and tons of tactics, and it is available 60% off on GOG.com. That's only $3.99 for the next 24 hours!

Play through this unique hybrid, leading your armies across the span of time and space, to attempt to right the wrongs caused through the arrogance of the 13 greatest mages of history. In your quest, you will fight against terrible odds, face monsters and horrors out of legend, command armies numerous enough that your campfires' smoke will blot out the sun.

With a simple control system, a rewarding amount of tactical depth, strong character design, and sweeping vistas for you to develop, battle over, and finally conquer, this game satisfies both the urge to command huge armies while also scratching that storytelling, character-developing itch. If you're a fan of either the RTS or RPG genres, this is one gem you don't want to miss.

Right the wrongs of history! Get Spellforce: Platinum 60% off on GOG.com. That's only $3.99 until Tuesday, April 2nd, at 10:59AM GMT.

Reever: So, would this be something for people who normally don't play RTS games (and suck at them :D)?
I might just post in the gifting thread, maybe I get lucky and can give it a try...

AlKim: Though I don't buy or play RTS games on a regular basis, I generally do enjoy the occasion when I can really get into one. That said, I disliked SpellForce. There are plenty of flaws; dig up my review if you want a more detailed rundown of them (sorry for the grammatical errors, btw). Long story short, I think SpellForce 2 was way better. It's no Warcraft III (which is a genuinely good game no matter what you think of the franchise in general), but an acceptable alternative as far as I'm concerned.
Well, checked your review and the yeah, the games does sound quite flawed. But usually when there's a series, I'm compelled to have all parts anyway xD
As I said, I'll just try my luck in the gifting thread and see what comes. Isn't that high a priority on my list anyway, but I've heard so much about Spellforce, I might as well try it out sometime :)
I think the developers were counting on sideboob-based sales.

Well, it nearly worked.
Great game with a lot of gametime to be had.
This game was good. It's a pity it didn't go further on the genre mixing, as it will always give you the basic structures you need for each race right before the first time you find their altar, but I had a wonderful time playing it.
IIRC this game was one of the very first Gem Promos. Have it on my shelf since then.

I know I like to stay abreast of the sales here.
Alright, I did some more research, visited the Spellforce forums, watched a bit of an LP, looked at those tits a few more times and have decided that this is a title I am interested in. Now, whether I pick it up before the end of the promo or later remains to be decided. Sideboobs aside I will give it a try. And if I like it I may pick up the second. For the pair... of games.

Whether or not you like the first game shouldn't affect your attitude towards the second, because while the RTS/RPG idea remains, the execution is very different.

As a side note, the clothing (or lack thereof) of the lady on the box art is acknowledged in-game, which I found rather nice.
I mentioned earlier that I have the "Spellforce Universe" and I think it's a nice addition to any collection. There are much worse games out there that are a lot more expensive. Is it Morrowind? Is it Postal? No, but saying someone isn't as good as Gretzky doesn't mean they are a bad hockey player.
What the... totally missed this one yesterday. o_O

Anyway: Own it already and it's not a very good game. I was amazed by it when it was new but it has so many flaws, some pretty big, that I can't really enjoy it for long.
