As promised, we have really great offers for you to celebrate the biggest gaming event in Europe - GamesCom in Cologne, Germany, for those of you who don't know what we're talking about. Not one, but two promos are running on GOG.com this week! First and foremost you can now grab the one and only The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings for only $29.99 (40% off the regular price)! The game that received IGN, GameSpot, GamePro and many others Editor’s Choice mentions and is believed by many to be on of the best PC titles of the year, is now available for the most affordable price you can find!

Additionally to this offer, we're having a 40% discount on games that enjoyed great success in Germany back in the good old days. You can grab Jagged Alliance 1 for $3.59 and Jagged Alliance 2 for just $5.99; Battle Isle Platinum for $5.99, Realms of Arkania 1 and 2 for $3.59, Realms of Arkania 3 for $3.59 and Master of Orion 1+2 for $3.59. This way everyone around the world can enjoy this gamer’s holiday even if you're not attending the show.

Both promotions end on Monday, August 22 at 3:59 a.m. (7:59 a.m. GMT), so don't wait and save those monies!

KOCollins: The Witcher 2 will continue to go down in price, and should be on sale even cheaper by christmas...of course if you really really want the Witcher 2 then, get it now before it goes off sale for months! In any case, give my sympathies to your credit card. ;-)
While it is true Witcher 2 price will go down over time, I'm going to buy it now just to show my support for GoG (as it is their own game), even though I'm not going to play it yet and could easily wait. Actually I was even going to buy it for 49.90, but I think this price is also good enough to show them my support. I'll buy Witcher 1 at the same time.

One minor reason might be also the legal actions between CDProjekt and (was it?) Namco, ie. what if CDProjekt suddenly says that they are not allowed to distribute DRM-free Witcher (2) anymore? Probably not going to happen, but if it did, I'd kick myself in the head for not getting the DRM-free Witcher 1-2 when I had the chance.
I was waiting for that, thanks GOG!

I already own the Collectors Edition of The Witcher 2, but digital versions are so convenient.
Especially the ones without DRM :)

I already own JA2 and MoO 1&2, but bought Realms of Arkania (though I'm wondering if they are not to hardcore for me).
What I like about buying here is that I support the developers directly which means that my money is used much more efficiently probably almost all going into developing extensions or the next big project. :)

However I agree that a permanent price cut would even be more convenient. Going back to the old price would certainly mean that nobody ever wanted to buy here again. Maybe make it 35$ afterwards, so people who like it cheap still have an incentive to buy now (I already did so) while afterwards sales will still continue on a competitive level and a good price for you.

Or did many people buy Witcher 2 recently for full price?

Except people who are new here, because they haven't seen the previous deals and promos. I didn't come here until June this year, while some people seem to have been around three years or so.

Occasional promos are a good way to push some people to buy games they wouldn't otherwise, like I'm going to buy the Arkania games now, and still thinking whether I should still buy the Jagged Alliance and Battle Isle games just for the sake of it.

Also, I've noticed that many times GoG is using the promos quite cunningly, e.g. dropping the price of the second game in a series of three games, so that many people want to buy the parts 1 and 3 also (for full price), just so that they have the full series right away. I've fallen for that a couple of times now. :)

Yes, exactly. I hope CDP RED will make a good use of my money (The Witcher 3?) :)

Yes, I know about this psychological effect and try actively not to get too much influenced. I always wanted to buy Witcher 2, but not for more than 30$. So now is the right moment. However people who have seen this promo but for some reason must wait longer, will certainly not buy for the full price. It's just not competitive anymore. Not even for newcomers if they have the ability to compare prices with stores elsewhere. It's certainly the business decision of GoG but I see a high chance that low sales times full price is less profit in the end than moderate sales time 35$.

We are humans and prune to errors, but we are not fooled sooooooooooo easily. Not if it is about money. At least I hope so. :)
This promo is not for me.
I don't have yet a PC able to run TW2 and the rest of the discounted games are mostly uninteresting for me. I must admit I'm a little bit disappointed.
Sorry GOG, my wallet will rest this weekend... :)
Well , this was kind of what I expected (with respect to the "GamesCom Promo") , I mean less discount than often seen before (only %40 off - Where GOG.com often have offered %50 or %60 off package deals) . So it looks like my analysis were right, GOG probably is doing some statistics and some number crunching to see if net profit is greater this way than the other...
I guess that prices on a number of upcomming sales will reveal what they decided would be more profiable...... (The number of future sales with lower then %50 discount ought to give us a pointer as to what they thinks pays off best....)
Ah dang it, I thought I was gonna skip this promo because I already have TW2, then out of boredom at work I read up on Realms Of Arcana, and bought all 3, and I'm really not supposed to, my payday is only on the 31 August again.

Just as well, I just bought a new car, and I have to have a huge backlog to curb my need to go out and drink and socialize with my friends, now that's an expensive hobby.
Done. I ended up buying everything in the promo (except MOO1-2 which I have already), plus Witcher 1.

It's only money, I get more from work every month...

To be fair the games are only ones and zeroes :))
I see people complaining about this been only Old games, I also don't care about this new promo, BUT, lets face it, its nice to see cheap New games too, so those guys get a lot of revenue and companies see that lower-prices will result into more sales, and also GOG.com can stay alive longer and add even more Old games to the list. ;-)

Trilarion: Why not mixing up? Not offering Witcher 2 wouldn't make LucasArts coming here any more likely at all?

After all Witcher 2 is the flagship game from their sister/parent company and offering it here means that we get it for really good conditions (competitive price, no DRM) and they can bypass retailers and Steam and collect the maximal share of the sales prices. This is perfect and as far as I know will be an exception at least for some time, because it's not as big publishers are standing in line to get their AAA titles DRM free on GOG.

So why wreaking on Witcher 2 because of your dissatisfaction with the amount of games? I think the focus of GoG is still very much on good and old. But not solely and I like it. The more the better and the name is not so important.
Thank you for this information - I was wondering already about TW2 appearing on GOG. In that case: Good Promo...
I bought Jagged Alliance 2 about 45 minutes before it went on sale. I feel a bit of a juggins. The lesson I've learned is, never buy anything that isn't on sale. I don't think that's the intended result of these random sales, but that's not my problem. I haven't learned to check GoG every 48 hours to see if there's a sale on, which is not my problem either. Somebody needs to learn about elasticity of demand, and I already know, so it isn't me.

That brings me to Witcher 2. USD30 is a pretty good deal, if you have an unlimited data plan or are a student. Otherwise, it's USD30 + 8 gigabytes of data transfer. I'd suggest that if you can order a game from TallFemaleWarrior.com and recieve it in less time, with a printed manual, without clogging and/or using up your Internet connection, you're a bit silly to get the game another way. In English we call it "externalities."

I hate to urinate on the campfire, but someone obviously needs to say these things, and I'm not shy.

Is the physical media DRM free and copyable (for backup, like the GOG download is) ?

Had it been Steam then I would seen it the other way around - since you don't own Steam games but only a license to the game (and can't install it without Steam)..... I am not saying that Steam does not have its advantages, just saying that I feel rather unsecure in the customer protection and rights department with respect to Steam....
