I've got $3 left on my PayPal account and I'm in the mood for trying something new, just for fun. Any idea what small game I could spend it on? Do you by chance know of any great and cheap games that I might have ignored so far? Any insiders' tips?

I like all kinds of games, regardless of budget, although some genres more than others (I'm usually not that good at strategy and sims). GOG, DotEmu, Desura, GamersGate, Indievania, Humble Store, developer's websites, etc. maybe even Steam would be fine. I generally prefer DRM-free but at 3$ I'm not that picky. ;)

Urban Chaos isn't bad. It's fast as hell with some nice fighting and a lot of timed stuff but little in the way of strategy.

It's primarly running, jumping, slide tackling, but there is some great car stuff in there too. The parking tutorial is great and if you have a halfway decent game pad not to hard to master.

The demo should be readily available somewhere, cnet or fileplanet.

The Legacy of Kain games are 3 dollars this weekend here on GOG, kind of a no brainer if you haven't played them.


Also, Startopia, it's a bit on the short side, but a fun ride while it lasts.

Yikes, I'm pretty bad at time trials. But checking out the demo is a good idea, thanks! I've played through that one already, and to tell the truth I didn't like it very much, but that was also due to the lack of a savegame function which I believe has been fixed in a more recent update. :) Finding free games that are great isn't that hard; I bet it's easier than finding good ones for $3. I know it must sound kind of weird that someone is looking for a way to spend $3 when you can play all these cool games for free, heh. :D

Anyway, it's a common strategy game, right? I may take a look at it but it's not that likely that I will enjoy it. I already have all of these. I really like Startopia, btw, that's one of the few sim games that I actually enjoy, and short means good in my book. ;)

I don't like it all that much even with the save function in, but it's at least an interesting little tidbit for a cheap price.

True, that's why I've bought it. :) Got that one, too, heh. Maybe finding a cheap game I don't own yet will turn out to be the greatest challenge ... lol.

I managed to find a demo for Urban Chaos, but I wasn't able to install it due to some error occurring halfway through the installation. Maybe it's because the original is not optimized for Win Vista, or not even compatible with it? :(

Any other suggestions?

Only tried the demo on desura. Looks ok. Not sure i would buy the complete game though.Need to try it first..
