Surprise sale for all of you RPG lovers! From now until 23.59 pm EST on the 28th of February, we’re offering you a chance to buy one D&D game and get one FREE! More than that, though, if you buy ANY D&D game during our sale, you will get Temple of Elemental Evil for free if you don’t already own it!

Now, we assume if you’re coming to GOG.com you probably have something of an appreciation for old games, but in case you aren’t familiar with these fantastic RPGs, let’s cast our mind back to the ancient days of yore and reflect on the digital bundles of concentrated awesome that these titles represent:

Baldur’s Gate: The Original Saga and Baldur’s Gate II: Complete collectively received over 10 “Best game of the year” awards from publications such as PC Gamer, Eurogamer, Computer Games Magazine and IGN. They are both rated over 92% on Metacritic, and combined will bring you at least 100 hours of some of the best computer game RPGing you can get for less than ten bucks during our sale. That’s less than ten cents per hour of gaming goodness!

Likewise, the Icewind Dale series brought the D&D license to action RPG gaming, first in the old-school 2nd edition, and then with the updated 3rd edition mechanics in the second game in the series. Set in the howling blizzards of Icewind Dale, these action RPGs feature incredible in-depth tactical combat and just enough story to propel you along to newer and greater battles.

Planescape: Torment is another one of those games that every RPG player needs to have on his or her shelf. Winner of multiple RPG and Game of the Year awards in 1999, it is widely considered as one of the best storytelling RPGs in gaming history. With a gentler gameplay difficulty than some of the other AD&D-licensed games Planescape: Torment makes an excellent entry into the Hasbro D&D games for someone who’s new to the genre.

Neverwinter Nights is not only an incredible game in and of itself (It’s a recipient of several critic awards for best RPG game of the year), but it has one of the most enthusiastic modding communities of any RPG ever created, and the quality and variety of adventures you can go on after you’ve finished the main quest are truly staggering. This game is literally one you could play for the rest of your life, if you were determined to get through every single user-created campaign.

Dungeons & Dragons: Dragonshard is a fascinating blend of RPG and RTS. While it is not the first D&D RPS, it is the first one set in the Eberron world, and it uses the fascinating mythos of Eberron to good effect, drawing the player into a complicated many-sided struggle over an artifact of immense power. Not an RPG in the traditional sense, it is a very interesting use of the D&D license, and one that received positive reviews for its two-layered tactical approach and fun gameplay.

Forgotten Realms: Demon Stone is an action RPG with some interesting tactical elements to go along with the usual hack and slash of the genre. The game never gets dull because it has three characters, each using a different style of combat, and the player can switch out the active character at any time. The voice acting is filled with star talent like Patrick Stewart and Michael Clarke Duncan. All told, it’s a whirlwind RPG with a fast-paced story and plenty of monster killing--a great example of action RPGs that any fan is sure to love.

Finally, Temple of Elemental Evil is not only a great tactical RPG based off one of the most famously brutal old-school tabletop RPG modules, it’s also FREE FREE to you with the purchase of any other Atari D&D game during this sale! If you’re hankering for one of the tougher tactical RPGs you’re likely to play any time soon, be sure to pick up any of the Atari Hasbro D&D games this week and you’ll be rewarded with this as well!

This sale ends at 23.59 pm EST on the 28th of February, so be sure to pick up your D&D classics now!

Zangtesu: Baldurs gate is not bad either. Of course the second is better but i finda the first one very good too.

Maverick814: Would I be missing out storywise if I picked up Baldur's Gate 2 over 1?
I played it a long time ago. IIRC in terms of story wise you will not miss, but some of the playable characters will be from the first Baldurs so you probably miss some story on that part.
Le sigh.

Yet another deal with games I already own!
(Well the GOOD D'n'D games at least!)

Maybe on Thursday they release something nice and cheap, I'll pick up another valentine bundle.

(Ultima 8+9, 11th Hour, or something EA /SquareEnix related might make me bite)

(Thats the problem with having 240 GOGs. Nothing left to buy! XD)
I decided to get more than two games.
I got Baldur's Gate 1+2, Planescape: Torment and Neverwinter Nights.
Well this gives me a chance to pick up some games that I missed before.

Thanks GOG!

Leroux: AFAIK there aren't any "all models replacement" haks but there are plenty of graphical overrides to choose from and most of the high rated modules also make use of community-created content (including new tilesets and models, often with better textures). It will always remain NWN, so if you can't stand its look at all, there's not much you can do about it. But it's a lot better than the bland default campaign. Seriously, if you have never owned the add-ons, one could say you have never really experienced NWN. I'd say get over your dislike of the graphics and give it another try.

Teaser

[Disclaimer: This picture does not necessarily represent your typical NWN experience, just a glimpse of what it can look like, too. In the end it all comes down to which modules you play or which graphical overrides you pick for yourself.]
Thanks for the reply, Leroux!

I could definitely live with graphics like that, and I guess quite a few of the modules would be worth the additional work (heck, I've wasted almost three years on modding and collecting haks for that game, adding a week of hak searching won't kill me :D).

*sigh* I just really had hoped after all those years someone would make something like the override equivalent of the CEP to beautify the game a bit. Normally I'm not that focused on graphics, but I really find the ugliness of those models immersion breaking.

Then again, I've always wanted to play HotU ...

Oh well, still one week to decide on which side I'll jump off this cosy little fence! :P

Personally the only one from there that I dislike is Neverwinter. I'm to much of a fan of Baldurs and the party system of NW disgust me. Planescape never played so I cannot give you an honest opinion, bu i think is similar to Baldurs.

Nice sale & bonus. Got 3 games marked off my wishlist now. This is why GoG kicks so much ass!

I've never tried any D&D game, so this is gonna be exciting to see what the hype is about.
Icewind Dale 1 or 2 ("both" is not a choice)?
Asking again just in case.
I already own all of the games in this sale except for Dragonshard and Demon Stone (which I'm not planning to buy). All of them are from GOG except for my DVD of BG1 and 2. My only question, to other game owners, is whether the extras they include with BG1 and 2 would make it worth buying them again (as well as not having to deal with the CD-check).
Nice, you own all games from this promo.
Have fun and don't forget to check out our next offer.

Oh well. :) Nice sale though.

...AGAIN! :D
Will definitely be buying a couple of these, as they're on my Top 10 Best Games Ever list.

Have played Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale (both awesome games!) but have no idea where the disks are. So may buy those again. But haven't played any of the others so there's a few I'll have to make decisions about before the sale ends. Will see how much money I make this week (I'm a freelance writer) - may just end up with all of them :)
Wow, this is a truly stellar deal. I've already played all of them and I own most of them already, but if I had the money, I'd pick them up for sure, just so they'd be part of my GOG library/ease of installation.

Top notch, guys!
Man, I already own all this. GOG, you need more D&D!

Seriously guys, buy both Baldur's Gate games. BG1 is HEAPS better modded. Check out the sticky on the BG forums for mod recs.
I boycott games I've bought here already. This is non-negotiable.
