I've decided to get into a good TV series I missed and both of these are on Netflix (seasons 1-3 of BB, 1-4 of MM), what do you fellow GOGers think I should start first?

I finished watching Trailer Park Boys recently and it was a fun series, looking for something more dramatic now.
I'm not familiar with Mad Men but I really liked Breaking Bad.
Why not 'Shoot and Bury' instead of 'Break'?
It's quicker, more practical and less humiliating for the Mad and Bad men.
Totally different series. But I would recommend Breaking Bad first. I think it's more likely for it to suit more viewers - maybe you.

Breaking Bad is a great story about oridinary man, who's facing real life problems and his way of dealing with this. It's a great show where you really keep your fingers crossed for the bad guy. The story is complex, characters are memorable and unique.

Mad Men on the other hand is a regular drama. It shows how US society was changing during the tv boom , etc etc. It's interesting and deep, but not as exctiing like adventures of Mr. White.

I preferred Breaking Bad, it felt like a fresh air albeit I wasn't quite sure whether it was really going anywhere. But it was executed very well IMHO and I was always really waiting for another episode. I'm not sure how many episodes I saw, maybe the first two seasons?

Mad Men, as far as I could tell, probably appeals more to females than men. I lost interest to it quite fast, there really didn't seem to be anything interesting happening there.

Mad Men is a great show which gets even amazing if you have a bit background information about the events that took place in the period when each season takes place. The show is littered with small gems which can be oh so easily overlooked, but if you notice them, and know what they're about, add so so so much more flavour to the whole show.

I love it, but that's also because I'm a whore for advertising and that period was really the gold age for the industry, and the show at start takes it really seriously and switches to interpersonal drama later during the seasons (around s3).

With this said, I've seen only a few episodes of Breaking Bad; just couldn't get into it, it felt like a generic show with little to no reason to pay close attention.

I'd go with Mad Men if you want to actively get involved in a show and have the time and inclination to pay attention to details and Breaking Bad if you want to have something running on your second screen while you're doing something else, but that's just me.
Breaking Bad definitely! Deep and complex storyline, great characters and superb acting from Heisenberg! :)
Also, Breaking Bad didn't get any Emmys for hair stylisation.
breaking bad if you are a bloke. mad men if you are a sheila
Neither! Game of Thrones foh EVAH!

On topic though both of those shows didn't do it for me, but if I had to choose it would probably be Breaking Bad. It has some interesting characters and situation albeit a bit grizzly.
Mad Men makes me choke even by just watching them through their constant smoking. And in general it portrays trends and habits that I consider responsible for today's situation of social discord. Hard to enjoy a show that makes you grind your teeth several times per episode.

I cannot see why people enjoy Game of Thrones ;-). It is amongst the most boring shows I've ever seen. If you want a political/fantasy show done good, check out "Kings".

On the topic, Breaking Bad is awesome. A really great show with several really, really great actors.

I haven't seen Mad Men yet, so I can't comment on that.

Never any interest in either of them.

"Justified" is a lot of fun.

Really?? I find it so hard to believe anyone could get bored by that show! It's a character based show in a setting that allows more freedom (in social norms and physical laws), that is done right... Well, with few exceptions of course.

Sorry for the off topic. Genuine surprise though.
I watch both and have each on DVD. I'm glad AMC staggers the seasons - spreads out the viewing nicely.

Like AndrewC, I'm all over advertising history, so Mad Men has solid appeal for me. Plus the whole time period of the Sixties with all the various references to events and culture of that era fascinates me. Definitely more soap-opera than Breaking Bad, but lots of good stuff there.

Breaking Bad has been absolutely mesmerizing. I'm sucked into each and every episode, rooting on Walt and Jesse, and great characters like Saul Goodman (s'all good, man!), Gus, Hank, and Skinny Pete! Lots of tense episodes ("One Minute" comes to mind right away).

Try both, of course. If I had to pick one, though, it would be Breaking Bad.
Watch Breaking Bad and forget about any other TV series!
