There are two things that matter to all of us gamers: the games we play and the friends we play them with. But as more titles come with dedicated launchers and clients, our games and gaming buddies become scattered in between them. With GOG GALAXY 2.0, you’ll be able to combine multiple libraries into one and connect with your friends across all gaming platforms!

As gamers, we need to juggle between multiple clients to access our games and see what our friends are playing,” says Piotr Karwowski, Managing Director at GOG. “We believe gamers deserve a better experience, and this became the driving force to redefine GOG GALAXY client,” Karwowski adds. “GOG GALAXY 2.0 is designed for all gamers and extends well beyond existing GOG.COM users, into both PC and console platforms.

Once you connect GOG GALAXY 2.0 with other platforms, it will import all your games into one library. You will see your friends activities and online status across connected platforms. All new library and friends features apply to your GOG.COM games and enhance your experience. And it’s designed to protect your privacy – your data belongs to you and will never be shared with third parties. We see it as an all-in-one solution for the present-day gamer.

Will GOG GALAXY 2.0 make me omelette in the morning?

StarChan: I'm worried about the offline innstallers. What are your long term plans for those? Is there any chance that you could heighten their status by increasing their visibility?
avatar
Ashleee: Release of our new client won't affect offline installers :)
I already got a reply to that, but it's nice to have double reassurance :)

There is this little issue, though. Some of us think it would be nice to see the offline option given a nice and flashy button just like Galaxy, to underscore their equal status. Somebody even made a wish for it. Hope to see it happen someday.

Chromanin: Just wondering, are there plans to also integrate any of the services for these other platforms? I'm mostly talking about Steam streaming, library sharing, big picture, etc.

Also, does GoG galaxy have controller support? Another big reason why I use Steam.
Controller support is provided by the game itself, instead of GOG Galaxy :)

Such info can be a check on the gamecard.

ShawnHopscotch: Question:

Considering how far too many digital platforms do not have a way or means to back up (or restore) our purchases to and from removable media (CD/DVD/BluRay) will Gog Galaxy 2.0 have a way for us to do this?
I'm not sure what you are asking for. After I bought something I open it in Galaxy's library and start the download of all the extras and offline installers there. Once the download is complete, I run the installers and if Galaxy is open while I do so (which is practically always is) the game is automatically registered as installed there and from then on I use Galaxy to launch it. Afterwards, the installers are moved to my to-be-archived-externally-later location.
That has worked fine since the very first time I used Galaxy. I haven't tried 2.0 yet but I expect it to still work the same.

What more do you want? Using Galaxy to directly burn to optical media sounds like a lot of pointless effort, especially since external hard disks seem to be cheaper and more reliable than self-burnt optical disks were.

Console platforms. !?

Means that GOG.COM will work with Microsoft and Sony for Gaming and Cloud Services !??
All PC gamers includes Linux gamers too.

Two blue posts so far today, but neither one about Linux. It is like if there is a line in a store and the people at the store ask some people way in the back of the line to come to the register while ignoring everyone in front of them.
This sounds very good and I’ll definately use if it works as advertised. Adding all the games to Galaxy which are not client games was on my wishlist and this is even better since I can even add the few DRM steam games I own. Just one question:

When I play a steam multiplayer game (like the upcoming Halo MCC) and I launch the game through Galaxy 2.0, does the steam launcher automatically start and when I quit the game does it automatically close the steam launcher completely?

If that is that case I am very happy :)

Howdy. Do you guys plan some sorta gamepad implementation in the vein of uPlay rarther than Steam?
Thanks!

chandra: No need to worry, we are DRM-free first and foremost and there aren't any plans to change that, it won't happen :)
The client remains optional and not required to play your DRM-free GOG games.
That is really good to read. I really look forward to the development of Galaxy 2.0 and further versions.
Since Galaxy is the ONLY client i use at all.

I am kinda curious though, does that mean we gonna have access to other games as well?
For example from Steam Store, without being forced to use the steam client?

aka

Does that mean GoG will strike some deals so we see (now) DRM games released faster as
DRM FREE versions on GoG?

That would be awesome.

the_importer: Right now, I would just like so see a Linux announcement just so people will STFU about it! Seriously guys, half the pages in this topic about about Linux users whining. Linux is not popular enough and investing time to develop for it will NEVER be a priority until it becomes more mainstream and that will never happen until it gets to be as user friendly as Windows and MacOS, end of story.
I find Linux to be more user friendly than the other two. It's easy to use, and I have control over it. Microsoft forces what it wants into Windows, and limits user control.

phaolo: Good, but can you please tell me if this new version will add the option to manage offline setups? (games not installed, but stored on an external hdd).
Currently this is only possible with the unofficial user script gogrepo.
Without it, catching all the updates would be impossible.
You will be able to manually add single games that are not connected to any platform :)
I feel like many are really confused about what Galaxy 2.0 would be.
I think GOG should clarify any misconceptions users are harbouring.
It appears as if many users are thinking that they would not need other clients altogether, when that is certainly not the case.

enigmaxg2: After Windows 8.1 support ends, I plan to move to Linux because I can't stand Windows 10, gave it a chance since 2015 to late 2018 and I couldn't stand the neverending list of performance issues, bugs and the general feel that is a eternal beta testing anymore.

At this point, only Steam is fighting for a TRUE freedom of OS choice, sad to see GOG taking the no Linux route...
I highly recommend Linux Mint with the Cinnamon desktop. One thing that I did before making the transition was to start switching to open source applications on Windows. I switched from MS Office to LibreOffice. Then from Photoshop to GIMP. Some time later I finally dropped Outlook for Thunderbird, I wish I had done that one so much sooner. I use other open source programs that work on both Windows and Linux. This really made switching to Linux as a full time desktop a smooth experience.

I don't think this answers the question.

The question asks whether GALAXY would have a system to download and manage an archive of backup installers and update those "offline installers" when they are updated.
