Round 6: The aliens were shot down in their prime!.
In the sixth round of the Battle Of The Games, fans of UFO series were outnumbered by heavily-armed mercenaries, cornered, and finally forced to retreat with a 40% discount. Those who voted for Jagged Alliance 2 can be proud--the game is now only $3.99--while UFO: Afterlight can be purchased for $5.99 for the next 24 hours.

Round 7: Sacred: Gold vs Divine Divinity
Nothing less than two outstanding action RPGs enter the ring today, prepared to hack and slash each other to pieces. There’s really no way to decide which of these 3rd person RPGs is better other than voting.
If you don't know which game to vote for--check the video from Larian Studios, creators of Divine Divinity
Divine Divinity is a far better game.

Sacred is fun for a while, but the constantly respawning monsters really make it become a chore to play. Also the loot system is a lot like Torchlight's - basically the same set of items over and over but with higher attributes based on a combination of your character and the monster/area level. I don't like it that much.

The final straw came when I decided to skip to the next difficulty level instead of completing the expansion campaign on the current one because I thought my character could take it - turns out I could handle the monsters but I COULD NOT EQUIP ANY OF THE LOOT THEY DROPPED BECAUSE OF THE LEVEL REQUIREMENTS. Would've required hours of grinding just make the character level high enough. That put me off the game for good.

Excuse me, but JA2 and UFO links are linking to this page. Please fix it.

Thank you.

kodeen: Are enemies dead forever like in Divinity 2?
avatar
Mnemon: Yes. No respawns at all - every enemy in the world is unique, and once killed stays dead.
I still remember killing my first squad of orcs in a base camp. The huge sense of achievement after I killed the big bastard but still wary because some of the smaller ones were still alive. The expectation when I looted their chests.
Earlier I had run into them by accident while exploring and I tried taking on a smaller one but ended up having to run for it after giving him a bloody nose.

The level progression is also pretty good, the freedom of letting me tinker around with any skill I want.

Divine divinity is still a favourite of mine. I would really like an updated version keeping it most the same but with improved graphics, UI and gameplay.

wolfsite: So far it has always been the game on the right hand side that has won these battles correct?
Myst won on the left-hand side on the first day. I'm not sure about any of the others, though.
Own physical copies of both, got bored of Sacred. I'm voting for it anyway, even though I want a digital copy of DD, because it's the more expensive of the two and I want to make the bundle cheaper for others. Also, DD is still cheap at only 40% off.

kalmis666: And since its loosing voting it.
As opposed to tightening?

AlbLupus: I own both but as a fan of hack 'n slash my vote goes for Sacred. Huge world, plenty of loot, endless fights, infinite enemies. My favorite alongside Diablo & Titan Quest.
Titan Quest: now THAT is a game!!! Especially with the addon Immortal Throne and the mod Underlord. GOG get that game!
I voted for Sacred btw, already have Div. Div. I dont think sacred will win though, if it does it would be the first game i buy from this promo: i totally forgot to buy Gothic 1, stupid me.

They'll need to sign THQ as publisher here, first.
I voted for Sacred gold, because I already purchased Divine Divinity two Christmases ago. I'm always tempted to buy Sacred Gold, but have never followed through. If it wins that would certainly be enough incentive for me to actually follow through with that purchase.
I've been holding off on Divine Divinity for awhile because i'm a bit squeamish of the game breaking bugs i've heard about, but if it wins I may finally get it.

I tried to like Sacred Gold, but I didn't like that I couldn't choose a more challenging difficulty from the beginning and had to unlock it. Playing something that's too easy and has alot of enemies got boring for me fast, not to mention the low frame rate issues I had at times, but that's just my personal experience.

Loved the end of the video from Larian using the "Konami Pause" sound effect. :D

Divine Divinity has a lead of more than 1000 votes...
This looks like the first round where I might have actually backed the winner!

I have both of these & Div Div is clearly the better game!

DrIstvaan: -Divine Divinity, on the other hand, is much more detailed, with much more likeable (or despicable) NPCs, a more interesting plot
Is that the case? If so, I've lost interest in Sacred and gained some in Divine Divinity.
I've thought this is the 2nd promo day I'd skip (Jagged Alliance - meh :P just not my type of game I think even though I've liked Commandos), but maybe I'll overlook how much DD has aged...

I've enjoyed Arcanum immensely, will this be my cup of cake?
avatar
Licurg: Everybody vote for Sacred please. It's the better game
How so? Someone has written that this is a more grindy of two games, with slightly more generic characters etc. I like my experience more concentrated (I sacrifice open world gladly). I need vivid NPCs and engaging story.

In all honesty, i just like it because it reminds me more of Diablo 2 :P

EDIT: I also like that it's open world, feels like 3rd person Morrowind:)

@Theadam, Licurg
Yes, to everyone his own... That's why I find it nice these two games are so different, this way, supporters of both endless grinding and more hand-crafted settings have something :-).
(As for me, I like both games much.)

Those were patched out quite a long time ago, fortunately ;-). But indeed, for example, before the patch, I couldn't finish the game due to a bug which crashed the game every single time I got to a certain point.
I would just love to see Sanitarium in one of these Battles...
