Sigh. This is the first time I can participate in the Batlle of the Games because I'm interested in one of the games that I don't own yet, and it looks like I'll be on the losing side. Divine Divinity is quite a nice game and worth paying $5.99 for, but as far as Sacred is concerned, I'm at the same time curious and sceptical about it, would never pay $9.99 for it and even ponder over an offer of 50% off. I'd definitely get it for a 60% discount, just to try it, but I fear 40% off will not convince me to add it to my backlist. Oh well.

Voting for Sacred since I wouldnt actually mind getting both games XD

Got both, didn't finish either, the difference being that I stopped playing Sacred Gold out of boredom, feld way too repetitive and linear...

For people who don't know these games, here's a quick, at-a-glance comparison.
The biggest difference lies probably in the scope of the games. You have an immensely vast, diverse world and (almost) total freedom in Sacred vs a much more concentrated, quite linear story in Divine Divinity, with both having its strong and weak points.
-Sacred's huge, open world means that you can pretty much go wherever you like (between certain limits, enemies are even scaled to you, so that's not a problem either) and although there's a main plot, you don't really need to concern yourself with it (only to reach ever higher difficulty levels). However, it also means that the world isn't very detailed (however, it's certainly not generic), and while there are about a gazillion side quests, the NPCs are anything but remarkable and even the rewards aren't that good.
In essence, it's all about looting, grinding and gaining levels.
-Divine Divinity, on the other hand, is much more detailed, with much more likeable (or despicable) NPCs, a more interesting plot and quite a number of unique locations. However, the world is much smaller, so you'll quickly get to know everything, enemies don't respawn, so there's no infinite XP/loot and you're mostly forced to follow a set route or face insta-death from creatures waaaay over your level.

Which you'll like more can thus depend on whether you want a loot-and-grind fest or a detailed story and world. Both are backed by awesome gameplay mechanics.

Maybe as the contest winds down things will heat up with a few very popular titles (some Bioware, Interplay, or EA).

I own both but as a fan of hack 'n slash my vote goes for Sacred. Huge world, plenty of loot, endless fights, infinite enemies. My favorite alongside Diablo & Titan Quest.

I'll be buying both as I did with the last set (Gothic and Arx Fatalis) but I cast my vote to Sacred. Wife was just talking about buying it last night as a matter of fact!

Everybody vote for Sacred please. It's the better game , and also... maybe someone will gift it to me if it costs 4$ :P

I couldn't really get into Sacred because of the near-instant respawns. How is the spawn rate in DD? Are enemies dead forever like in Divinity 2?

Yes. No respawns at all - every enemy in the world is unique, and once killed stays dead.
