Round 1: The victor emerges from the Myst.
The first round of Battle of the Games is over. Thank you for all the votes, and congratulations to everyone who have voted on Myst: Masterpiece Edition--the game is $2.39 now!
However, we will never forget the 6,000 people who voted on The 7th Guest--you can get into Old Man Stauf’s mansion for only $5.99.

Round 2: Alone in the Dark 1+2+3 vs Indigo Prophecy
The clash of chillers is on--two treats for supernatural-adventure fans will fight for the horror supremacy on GOG.com. Vote now!

If you couldn’t fall asleep for hours after venturing into Decerto, a legendary Luisiana mansion (like a lot of us GOGers did) vote for Alone in the Dark 1+2+3. This game, grandfather of all that is insane and unholy in gaming is inspired by the H.P. Lovecraft’s universe and will be remembered forever thanks to the unsettling camera setup, eerie soundtrack, and a thrilling story.

Fahrenheit (Indigo Prophecy) offers a setting filled with science-fiction and paranormal elements, a plot with more twists than bag of Red Vines, and a NYPD agent and a priest as main protagonists. A wave of mysterious murders paralyze the New York City. Find out who (or what) is responsible for the ritual killings in this cinematic thriller adventure from the studio responsible for Heavy Rain.

For each day between June 19 and July 5, two games will battle one on one and you will decide which title wins. VOTE NOW! Each Round of the Battle begins at 1 PM GMT (9 AM EST) and ends after 24 hours. After each round, the winner of the popular vote will be discounted 60% and the runner-up 40%, for the following 24 hours. Bookmark the Battle of the Games page, check back every day, vote, and buy amazing games 60% off during our summer Battle of the Games!
I'm pretty sure the fact that Jesse Cox from OMFGCata tweeted about this twice (as he's currently playing through a GOG.com copy of Indigo Prophecy and loving it) accounts for much of the overwhelming popularity of the game.

Or, it could be that both of the games I've voted so far have won. So maybe it's just my impeccable taste. :P

Ah ah ! Now we know that GOG staff is hidden in the shadows, manipulating the votes so that they match their endgame !!!

That, or perhaps my crappy taste. I voted for 7th Guest in the first round :D

People like Alone In The Dark, but want 60% for Fahrenheit.

deonast: Actually I'd heard that Heavy Rain was supposed to be good, I've seen some high ratings in gaming reviews for it, was going to get it on PS3 when I found it cheap enough.
Come on, you know how it works don't you? Indigo Prophecy was exactly the same - the reviewers who only played part of it gave it high ratings. In fact, at the time it became a good way of seeing which reviewers played their games in full, because invariably those who did gave the game average marks.

Heavy Rain is written by the same guy, so contains all the bad writing, bad structure, lack of logic, and offensive stereotypes and objecitfication of women. However this time the QTEs are better and the musical score is rousing (though abused), and the directing isn't that bad actually.

Hey, I know games are male-dominated and there's the likes of Lara Croft and Fear Effect, but the sexism and discrimination here is all the more sinister because the writer is oblivious. He can only write straight, white men, he doesn't know how women, children and other races think or act.

Great 'game' to 'play' Mystery Science Theater 3000 style though. Truly epic that is.
The problem with this Battle of the Games is that people who already own the games can still vote. It's not "which game I like the most" contest but "which game I want to BUY cheaper". Come on people, if you have the game already why do you vote for it? This is a bit sick that people who own the game votes for it "because they have it" or "because they like it so much" or "because they want to help other people to get it cheaper". YOU'RE NOT HELPING!!!! Compared to Alone in the Dark, Fahrenheit sucks balls (my personal opinion) but still has twice as much votes than AitD because of things I wrote above.

A little suggestion to GOG.com staff. DISABLE THE VOTING OPTION FOR PEOPLE WHO ALREADY OWNS GAMES THAT ARE IN THE BATTLE OF THE GAMES. THIS WAY VOTING WILL BE FAIR.

I still want to buy a game even if I already own it, just for a gift :)

I would rather remove real-time votes counters and see only final results after 24 hours or partial results every 6 hours.
Suspense is super-awesome! :)

gameon: But i owned/completed fahrenheit on ps2 (and have neither fahrenheit or the alone in the dark games on GOG, so that wouldn't make any difference to my voting)
PS2 That you sold, you savage >.< !
I mean for people who already own these games on GOG.com.

I actually understand the people who vote games they already own, because they either like that game a lot or consider that by voting that game, they are helping people who don't own the game yet. I would do this too, if a certain game was taken into the battle. For example, Fallout 2. I have finished that game numerous times, but unless the game it was going against looks super-interesting and I don't already own it, I would vote Fallout 2. I think it's a great game and everyone should play it. If its price was lower, maybe it would courage those people, who wouldn't normally buy it, give it a shot. Besides, the promo is called "The Battle of the Games", so I think it's fitting that the game people keep in higher regard, wins the battle. That said, I still don't get how come Indigo Prophecy has nearly twice the votes AITD does, but people have spoken and they are entitled to their opinion. Maybe some of those voters were really interested in the game, or maybe they've played it in the past and have fond memories of it (thus want a price drop so that more people can buy the game, or maybe they just want to see their beloved game be crowned victorious). Anyway, everyone's entitled to their opinion and whether or not they own the game already shouldn't forbid them from voting. I don't think GOG should restrict anyone from voting however they like. (The only thing I don't approve of, is using multiple accounts to vote but I don't think it's a serious issue / people actually doing it) If the game you voted didn't win, then...too bad. I guess you have to settle for a -40% price drop instead of -60, which is not bad either in my opinion. You shouldn't take the promo too seriously, I don't think there are any losers in this promo.

I do agree with makr3la's suggestion of removing real-time counters in order to add suspense, and reveal current standings in certain intervals instead. For example, every 6 hours like you said, or perhaps once after 12 hours, the second time after 18 hours, the third time after 21 hours, and the end results.

You take this voting too serious. Let the community do the vote, beside i'm not sure whether voting is open only to GOG member or public. 40% off for $6 game not too bad.

gameon: Well like makr3la said, its still worth it for people wanting to buy gifts for others.
Yeah, but after reading comment like "I alredy have it but voted for it anyway" make me feel that some people don't understand the meaning of what "Battle of the Games" is about. That's why I wrote about disableing the voting option for people that already have the game on GOG.com.
I know there is no perfect solution for this. I just wanted to state my opinion because a lot of people are misunderstanding the purpose of BotG.

You have to be logged in to a GOG.com account to vote.

But what if you want to buy a gift copy? Why shouldn't I let you vote then, even if you own that game already?

And what if others don't want to play it? You see, my point is that only people who are interested in buying these games should vote and not people who already have it.

I give up. :(
