...just imagine InXile would have decided to continue the storyline of PlanescapeTorment. It would have been totally silly!
Spiritual successors and REAL remakes, that´s what we need! Unfinished Games shall be finished. But finished ones shouldn´t be stretched as hell!

paladin181: People often underestimate what it takes to do that since the same can be hackneyed in with mods. The point is that just because the result is similar doesn't mean the path to get there was just as easy.
While the word 'lazy' gets kicked around, I think it's more that people see no reason to be impressed that they took the long road to a similar destination, or to reward them handsomely for having done so. The labour theory of value doesn't have much currency in the gaming market.

For my own part I find myself more interested in GemRB than in the EEs.

GemRB is awesome. I was surprised when GOG announced the original BG games had Linux versions that they weren't based on GemRB. Makes more sense to me than wine.

Probably the biggest advantage of the enhanced editions is the very fast save / load times. When you get to Baldur's Gate (the city) navigating the nine separate maps plus the sewers and basements is definitely more fluid in the EE version where you don't really wait for load times. Also, if you want to spam the quicksave key at any point, it isn't disruptive at all in the EE version. I'm not sure that it's really worth the extra $10, of course, that's not all your paying for either.

Personally, I prefer the interface of the EE versions over widescreen modded originals, but that is a personal preference.

ZFR: I see your point. But for me it's like this:

If it's good, it would have been just as good with a different name (even a cheesy title like Adventures of the Sword Coast). Call it a spiritual successor. We don't really gain anything by having a BG3 name next to it.

If it's bad, it will drag the good name of Baldur's Gate through the mud. Yes I could just ignore its existance, but far too many good franchises have been ruined by excessive sequels.

So I see it more as (no-win)/(lose).

Ultimately, as you said I could simply not acknowledge it, so it's a minor annoyance at most. And none of us have really any choice in the matter.

I can understand (not agree with, but understand) all the people who want more BG games. So let's just agree to disagree :)

Baldur's Gate aside, if people want Infinity Engine, it would be a nice idea to make a sequel to Icewind Dale. That is one story that needs wrapping up in a sequel, and it looks like originally the producers intended this to be the case, but due to below par sales of IWD2 abandoned the idea. With the renewed interest after EE came out though, it might be a good idea to make one now.

I have the EE versions and like them a lot. As regards 1.5, I would buy it, anything of decent quality in the universe appeals to me greatly.
