Zeewolf: The amount of hours I've spent enjoying Armageddon Empires ensures that it was worth every penny. It may look overpriced compared to other indie games, but it's just plain awesome, and that's that.

Indeed. It's the only game I've been playing for the past week or so and I still enjoy playing Imperial forces, just a while ago an idea for a new deck and completely new strategy occured to me - I almost didn't touch other 3 races, each ensuring different gameplay, as well as iron man mode and cults. It gave me much more fun than most games I've bought this year - and I didn't even know it exists till recently...

DukeNico: I'll buy it when multiplayer is implemented! 30$ for single player card game, even if it is really polished is not worth it, in my opinion as well.

I don't think calling it a "card game" is remotely accurate. It's a wargame, which has some card-based mechanics, but hardly a card game. I've seen tabletop wargames with far more emphasis on the cards in play, and they're certainly not card games.

Besides, try visiting Shrapnel Games or Matrix Games, or any other online publisher of complex wargames like AE, and you'll find their prices are much higher. The reason is that this is a niche market - even at a much lower price, AE isn't going to get the kind of sales a casual indie game will get, because it's aimed at a small target group. So it needs a higher price to ensure that the devs stay in business even if they don't sell the same kind of numbers that casual games sell.

Mm, Shrapnel. Dominions 3 is lovely.
Expensive, but they do a discount for students (even students of the UK's Open University) and soldiers.

This is the stance I hold. I don't even think it would be that hard to add multiplayer to the game seeing as its turn based.

I wrote to Vic (the guy who made the game) and he wrote back that he has no discounts of any type. He also said the reason it is $29.95 is it is a middle ground between $19.99 and $49.99 games.
There you have it.

Faithful: How do you get a student discount, and how do you prove it? I am a student online going for my Masters.

From a UK university, they wanted a copy of my student ID. Since I don't have one, I emailed them and asked if there was anything else I could do, and ended up scanning a letter I had lying around referring to me as a student. So yeah, if you can't give them what they ask for, just email and explain, they'll sort something out. In case I was unclear, while the student side of things is worldwide, the military discount only applies to the American military.
The info's here. - Gamers Front is the Shrapnel Games online store.

The discount comment was in relation to Shrapnel Games, and their games are generally more than $30 - Dominions 3, the most popular (and clearly the best) game they sell is $55.
$30 isn't really that expensive for a solid game.

Ah, sorry, I misunderstood.
hm, i'll definitely check out the demo, it looks interesting. I'm a big MOO 1/2 fan, so this looks a bit similar even though it is planet based with cards and dice... so i guess not really at all similar, but still looks interesting :)
"Sadly, multiplayer is not going to be in the cards for the game at this point. It was a first game and I didn't really lay out the groundwork either from a design or architecture standpoint to do it. Right now so much is hard coded to assume a single player game that it would take a complete overhaul to get multiplayer added. Sorry to dissapoint here. I have taken the lesson learned and started from scratch on my next turn based game with mulitplayer in mind... both PBEM and Hotseat. LAN or direct internet play is something beyond my programming skills at this point so it's baby steps :)"
Oh well...
I hope when he comes out with his new title that has multilayer that AE will drop in price a bit; $20.00 would be nice.

Fenixp: Soo, who played it, who plays it and who sits behind it all night long, perfecting his deck?

Well, I bit the bullet and bought the game. It really is a wonderful little game with no easy way to win.
I do have a few questions though.
1. I have downloaded the extra files and I wonder what each does for the game? (Tip of the Spear, Cults of the Wastelands, as well as the Additional Deck File).
2. I installed my game to D:\Games\Cryptic Comet and I cannot seem to get the Additional Deck file download to work. I am assuming it should be showing up in the Main Screen of the game, but it is not there. Any help on where to put this Zip File would be great.
3. Is there and easier way to move the screen around other than the Arrow Keys, or the Minimap Arrows? It is a pain when the area you want to move to is off screen and the only way to move is the Arrow Keys.
4. Is there anything for your mouse scroll wheel to do in this game? Moving the map up and down would have been great.
5. Is there a way to adjust the resolution. You simply cannot see that much on the screen as it is?
Finally, Vic (the designer) seems like a very nice guy and has been very helpful. He seems to care about this game and I wonder if he will be putting out any more patches for the game; to add things like mouse support.
Anyway thanks Fenixp for posting this...wait! You got me to spend $30.00; I am never talking to you again! :o)
Or should that be ;oP
Thanks, it is a great game.

You didn't need to download first two, since they are part of patches and game is already pre-patched. And I've never downloaded Additional decks, creating and perfecting my own is half of fun for me :D
Anyway, Tip of the Spear = few additional rules, they just expand basic gameplay and you can use special 'fuel rule' if you decide to, look into the options. But it's there pretty much just to make game harder
Cults of the wasteland = when starting a new game, you can allow cults to be there. Cults are various 'neutral' factions (... hostile to everyone), every cult doing something special. They may try to simply fight other players, or blow the whole planet up. I'd recommend using them after you gain some experience with the game as well.

Go to new game and look if there are a new decks in selection of your side of the conflict

No, no, no no. Sadly, technical side of the whole thing, as well as controls, are not really user-friendly :-(
Fenixp, thanks for the reply and the info as I was totally unaware the two files were part of the full game.
If I could have anything, I think it would be higher resolution for sure to see more of the Hexes on screen.
Thanks again, as this is a rather fun game.
