darthspudius: I felt a bit weird about RE0 aswell. Dropping stuff anywhere was a bit odd. REmake would be an utter nightmare if you could do that lol.
avatar
Cyraxpt: Thing is, with the others (not counting the recent ones) you could put the items on the boxes and acess them in different spots (if they had a box there, obviously), with RE0 it was basically one spot (unless you were transporting the items and dropping in another places) and you had to split items with the other character, that was messed up, i had to fight a boss without the grenade launcher because it was with the other character (who was inaccessible)...

And i still remember my reaction after changing the level... "HEY WHAT ABOUT MY ITEMS"... and when the level changed it was just a mess of items on the floor. What were they thinking...
I'm getting a head ache thinking about it. lol

F1ach: I have both (inc DC) on PS1 I have this on GC along with Zero etc (yeah, still LOL, I am a hoarder), any point in me getting this?

Also, how are the controls?

Thanks for any help :)
I would get it. They really did a great job making it look sharper and cleaner whilst preserving that feckin creepy atmosphere.

If you set it to classic controls you'll probably play it fine on a keyboard. The layout makes sense and is a lot simpler then on a controller. The new control scheme however is a nightmare. I have no idea how it works lol. I couldn't get to the bottom of the dining area.

OK mate, thanks for the heads up, I'll probably get it, but would prefer to use a controller if possible. I don't remember them being crap on the GC, but that could be a bit of rose-tinting on my part.
Cheers! :)

Falci: Hahaha... I was young and had no other option. :P I'd hardly ever try that nowadays. I don't think I'd be able to remain stuck in a game non-stop for 5 to 6 hours again (Though I DID do that back in 2007, playing through SupComm's UEF campaign - but it was the last time, really).

darthspudius: I could probably do it with Resi 2-3 and Metal Gear Solid. But the original is still a bit hard for my taste.
I remember playing with Jill, because it was easier. Curiously enough, the only other Resident Evil I own and have played through completion is RE4.

I guess 2 and 3 never really caught my interest. Not that I enjoyed 4 all that much, because I didn't. The Control scheme felt so restrictive and cluncky.

The controller support from my experience has been just as good as the gamecube version. You should be fine. :)

Resi 4 controls was one of my favourite things about the game. I always thought they were a perfect balance between restrictive (which these games need) and responsive. They worked perfectly for the game. Unfortunately they royally fucked it up for Resi 5 (and fixed it for Resi 6).

No, because of bad taste of Resident Evil 4 Ultimate HD Edition. I don't say RE4 HD release is bad. It's a very good game, but it was released with a lot of bugs. Yeah, Capcom fixed them and now the game has a good stable status. But too late for me... :( Why?

Because I finished the game in a Window mode and I couldn't enjoy its new graphics. The only positive part of my pre-purchase was the extra content.

I decided to not buy great titles in hurry. I'll wait for the RE Remastered, GTA V, The Evil Within (when they release all DLCs), Dying Light, and etc.

Or I read your posts/comments and Steam users to finalize my decision. ^_^
Hmm... it seems that one guy (you know the one) turns into a Crimson Head sooner than I remembered...

gave me quite a start.

REmastered is in better shape than RE4 was on release (Which had great support from the devs in regards to updates). I have not had a single problem with it yet. But there is a lot of complaints from people with shite GPU's not being able to handle the 60fps mode. Looks nice on my one. :D

For a game that presents itself much more combat heavy than the others in the series, I ended up comparing it to FPS games, not the older RE games. I think the FOV also played a strong part in my disliking of it too.

Curiously, I remember enjoying Cold Fear, a survivor game similar to classic REs much more than RE4.

Cold fear was a good game that took advantage of what they did wrong with RE4. The first half on the ship was great. Unfortunately didn't go anywhere on the second half.

Same here. I'm maxing the game, and my GPU is far from being cutting edge. Not sure if the issues people are experiencing have to do with GPU power, or some sort of black magic.

They probably think they can play it on max with a dated system. People did exactly the same with Resident evil 4. They seem to think since the game came out near 10 yrs ago, whatever equipment they have should play it without fault.
Oh man, i had such a blast yesterday...

====================

Personal background:

So, i never played the first one (remake or not), my first experience with the franchise was going over to a friend house and watch him playing RE3. Later on i bought RE Code Veronica for the Dreamcast and eventually i also bought RE3 and played it by myself.
Years later i managed to get a cheap gamecube and a few games (i paid something like 50€ for it plus 4 games) so i've bought RE 0 (i couldn't find a copy of RE4 and RE Remake, this was around 2007/08) and i was really disappointed, the tank controls and the inventory system were the worst, i only played half of it before i quit...

So, time goes on, on my Xbox 360 i played RE5 (meh, it was an ok coop experience but overral was mediocre) and RE4 (it's a good game but it's just not the same Resident Evil experience as the others), and to finish, i think it's fair to mention The Evil Within, i'm kind of currently playing it, i had to send my ps4 to repairs and the cloud save kind of messed my saves so i lost like 3~4 hours of progress so i'm not really into the mood to going back, but from what i've played... it's just... meh.

====================

Back to Resident Evil Remake

I've played around 2 hours and, like i said, i had such a blast. It's there, that experience that i had when i was younger, the zombies, the puzzles (the newer RE's always failed on this aspect), the fear of what's in the corner, the pressure of bullets/items management, the map design, etc...

I always loved horror games but i HATE, HATE HAAAAAATEEEEEE walking simulators, Amnesia was just a boring experience to me and most recently, Outlast, same deal. I don't know, if i'm in danger my first reaction is going to grab something to defend myself, i won't just run around the place only hiding...

I know that some of you will say that true horror/fear is when you're defenseless against your enemies but no, i do agree that having too much weapons/ammo also ruins the experience since your mentality will be "bring it on, i'm ready", but there's a middle ground and Resident Evil Remake is the proof of that, you have limited ammo, you have limited inventory space (but i'll admit that i'm hatting it) and you have limited saves, it's a battle within yourself, "should i kill him or should i save ammo?", "Should i save now or save my ink ribbon?" and so on...

Best 18€ i've spent in recent years and i can't wait to get back to it tonight! :)

Tank controls were difficult to master at the time, can't imagine trying to do it now. Oh wait I recently finished Dino Crisis 2 and RE2 so lemme tell ya they haven't aged well.

The new control scheme works well, my only grip is with the camera view messing with my brain, i'm going on one direction, the camera view changes and the problem starts, the camera view tells me that i should press left to continue but the game is still reacting to the previews camera view where i was already pressing fowards. Eventually i got used to it...

I played them both recently too. Great games, I think I could play those with my eyes closed. I couldn't imagine playing those games without tank controls. It's just not right haha.
