I'm "boycotting" it because I simply don't care much for Action-RPG's with a bleak, dark-ages European setting, which I think is rather boring and uninteresting. So yeah. I won't be getting it because I'm not in the target demographic. The whole persistent online requirement certainly doesn't help either.

Edit:
I'm sure it is going to be a great game for those who care though. A lot of things can be said about Blizzard, but at least they keep their promises. And threats.

I will sadly probably play it enough to make up for everyone who is boycotting it.

Fenixp: Never said CDP is not doing it for money, but so far they were very responsive, friendly and made me, personally, feel good being their customer. I very much support this approach and would like more companies to go down that path. On the other hand Blizzard, ever since wow, gave me a very direct impression that all they care about is money - see, with EA or Ubisoft, at least I every so often see new concepts, new ideas, I see that developers honestly care about making games, which is another + in my book. What Blizzard creates aren't games, they're as sterile as you can get, it's more of something along the lines of 'Public Entertainment Software.'
Well, we seem to have incredibly different views on the companies then. I personally always had a lot more respect for Blizzard, because they really try and make the game right before actually releasing it. World of Warcraft was a prime example of that. Apart from server problems on the US side in the first weeks or so (overload) the game itself was polished near perfect. It ran like a dream compared to *anything* the rest of the MMO world had to offer. It's not for nothing the word 'polish' became a buzz word for MMO's after that (WAR used it a lot).

I can't speak for SC2 as I haven't played it, but is worldwide PVP really that much of a concern?

I can't really say much about Blizzard. My last three pruchases were SC 2, Diablo 2 and Starcraft 1. So I'm not "up to date". But with Starcraft 2 they did a solid and entertaining RTS. I only played the single player, but that was great. Considering Blizzard could have just made a pure MP game they would still have become filthy rich. They certainly put more effort in the SP campaign than they had to.

And CDP, well, there was this one think which put them on my blacklist. But I'm not derailing another thread with this today... ;-)

Edit: Fsck them for not releasing Lord of the Clans, though!

Actually, I think Diablo 3 will be the first ever Blizzard game I've purchased. The always online thing doesn't bother me as I'm connected to the internet 24/7 anyway and can't even remember the last time there was any downtime while also having power (as in, the last time my net was down, was during the rolling power cuts last year).

The items for real money thing doesn't bother me either, as I'm unlikely to play with people who would be foolish enough to use that option.
things that killed D3 for me

1: DRM (id only play it solo)
2: RL money for items
3: The thing with annual WoW passes a while back

Dont get me wrong, looks good but the above kills it for me
Not buying

My Money is going towards Torchlight 2 and Guild Wars 2 instead.

The only one of these I really understand is the DRM.

RL money for items. (totally ignorable? Don't buy items from other players for real money then, just use the auction house that uses ingame gold)

One year Pass. (how is this a negative exactly?)

Hah, if it were just DRM, the bloody game was LAGGING when I was playing solo. Unacceptable.

Sequiro: ..
You can say yes.

I was interested in a solo player Diablo 3... now if D3 has become a multilayer oriented always online MMO then I no longer give a damn about it. (And Blizzard being total douches about it didn't help either)

Things i dislike heavily:
dx9 only
always online slavery
camera angle(character being above the center of the screen)
no skill customization like old diablo2 ( i dont care about game having great builds-i like it)

Hah, it wasn't for me when I was playing solo (EU -> US servers). So yeah.. not sure what's unacceptable there. Are you saying the DRM was at fault for your lag? Are you playing the actual beta? Or did you play the Open Beta? (which clearly was mentioned to be a stress test)

I'm not exactly boycotting it. I'm just not going to buy it. As far as I'm concerned both this and Starcraft 2 have a massively overinflated sense of self importance about them.

With SC2 that was somewhat justified by the whole e-sports thing. But that has no relevance to the average player. To the average player it was just an C&C era RTS that had fallen behind the times.

This on the other hand has no such claim. It's just a hack and slash game with a whole lot of money grabbing bullshit and Orwellian levels of totalitarianism going on. Why the fuck would I want that?

Ummm... Characters are streamed to Blizzard's servers while you play, so even in solo, game acts as MMO. I do get that you in particular don't mind and that's ok, but do not act as a blinded fanboy.

lol. I'm the blinded fanboy just because I didn't lag? I guess the possibility that the 'lag' was in some way due to something on your end is absolutely impossible, am I right?

Simple fact (since I witnessed it myself) is, that it's perfectly possible to have smooth gameplay from EU-> US servers. And since I'll be playing EU I'm really not worried about that.
