Principle. I have enough childish things to deal with IRL than seeing a forum post "I IZ LVL 80 PALADIN BUT FIRST BOSS KILL ME. THIS GAME BROKEN!!!"

I have tried a few MMO's and the majority of people i have come across have the mental age of an 8 year old or are so stuck up about how they are elite players and "totally own you noobs" the thought of that infecting another game that has potential sickens me.

Shouldn't that same principle have prevented you from playing a multiplayer game to begin with? Because really... WoW players are everywhere. It's just ignorance to think they wouldn't have played it had there been no 1 year plan.

Then again, they do say Ignorance is Bliss :)

It speaks volumes to what the community will be like. And since MAJOR design decisions for the game were based on not being able to exploit the AH... I'd say its perfectly fair to expect future unwanted changes based on how all those looking for a quick buck will try to utilize the system in place. And since its ALWAYS on line, you won't be able to choose which version (or patches) you play like you could with D2 when playing solo or on lan.

IF you could have an offline character... then you would be correct that the issue is ignorable. But since you can't... its not ignorable and it shouldn't be on the paying customer to have to ignore that anyway.

Guess what I am going to do... I am going to play Diablo 3, Torchlight 2, and Grim Dawn... all of them will be played... by me... and I will enjoy it...I will enjoy it...allot.

I didn't think having online all the time would be a problem. I have Steam after all...which is the same thing.

Sadly, after playing the beta, I noticed that Blizzard is going to have problems on release and I bet I will not get online to play.

But I am hoping this will not be the case.

Boy, it's really no wonder why corporations have all the power and consumers none, and it's because we consumers are divided, divided,divided. Divided means no power, no power means no say, and so I would expect, in the not too distant future, that games will be 100% on-line always and 100% subscription based. In other words, you no longer purchase the game, you rent bandwidth from the game company every month.

And when that happens, we soooooo sooooo deserve it. Because we are just simply unwilling to work together when that means it might inconvenience us just a tad.

Hope you folks enjoy that brave new world. I will be glad I'm gone from it.

So sad. And so easily avoidable.

I'll bet before the year 2025, purchasing games will be a thing of the past.

ADDED IN EDIT: Some folks may wonder what the big deal will be if that happens. I'll tell you the big deal IMO. Just last night, I played Age Of Empires (number 1, the best one IMO) for three hours. I purchased that game in 1997 I think. 15 years ago. THAT's why I prefer to purchase them. If it's a game I like, I want to be able to play it when I want, where I want (on an unconnected to the Internet PC), and how I want. It's hard for me to understand why so many are so okay with anything short of that.

And I honestly couldn't give less of a fuck as long as I can play and enjoy said games. As for you, sorry to see you gone, and sorry you'll miss the amazing games that'll come out.

I believe Microsoft's goal was to get a version of Office into the cloud so that you had to "rent" features and access.... Google/open office beat them to it and made it free.

I believe I've also heard a goal of OS in the cloud. Its not just the gaming industry... far too many companies are inventing ways to funnel money rather than inventing actual products or improvements to buy. About the only thing they haven't thought of yet is the usage fee for toilet paper.

I'm going to keep voting with my wallet. Right now, GoG is getting some of my entertainment money. The more intrusive entertainment becomes, the more I spend time playing the good ole games. The good news... I can pay my car off a year early since I haven't been buying AAA games at release the last couple of years... THANKS greedy corporations! ;)

And I do hope you never find yourself in the position of having to endure something you think is totally wrong so that you want to change it but need others to help send the message to get it changed. You may have a hard time getting anyone to join your cause. Good luck though, who knows maybe you'll live well past 2025 and never find yourself in that situation.

I pretty much agree with OldFatGuy. I've been predicting the same type of scenario for a while now as well.

Anyway, to the topic: Not a boycott per se, but I was mildly interested in Diablo 3. However, when I read about the always on-line requirement, I decided I'll pass on it.

Heh, I was doing pretty good about my spending on games. But then I found GOG. There went my gaming budget again. lol I purchased A LOT of games in the 1990's and early 2000's and then as the 2000's moved along started likeing less and less of what I was seeing regarding DRM in general and just the way they feel like I'm a criminal and since I don't think i've bought a single game at it's full price. Not one I don't think. As for D3, I won't purchase that one if it's cost is $0.01. lol I think it's the way that they make me feel like I'm being treated like a criminal that burns me up so much. The fact is companies can survive with without resorting to this. Otherwise, no company would've survived before we had this. And the 1980's, 1990's, and early 2000's were full of companies producing games.
Thanks. I guess I should say it's not that I'm THAT old, it's just because of my weight, well, like the doctor told me. How many 60+ people do see that weight over 300 pounds? There's a reason for that. Most folks with that problem don't live much beyond 60. It never really hit me till he put it to me that way. And since then, every time I've gone out I do look. And he's right, you don't see many 60+, certainly 65+ people that weight over 300 pounds. (Don't know what that comes it to in kilograms, but whatever it is, it's pretty pathetic, trust me.)

And the real reason (IMO) for the online requirement comes out.
