Looks really cool! 'Voted!
BTW: It has a 25% discount at BundleStars, in case you can't wait.
Looks a bit too stylized/cartoony for me

HiPhish: The third video around the half-minute mark: again stupid BS unlocks. Seriously, what is it with unlocks these days? In Hexen you didn't have to unlock any of the classes, you just picked the one you wanted and started playing. But no, can't have that, must turn everything into a grind these days.
at least its not a dlc or a microtransation
thats even worse these days

used to be atime when the whole damn game was included instead of half the game being sold to you for full price and the other half drip fed to you
Oh my GOD! My head! I tried watching one of the clips and I started getting a headache. The FOV is way too low, it feels like its 60 or 75. Does anybody know if the game has an FOV option?

Other than being completely unplayable/unwatchable for me, the game looks great stylistically and I think I would enjoy it.

Edit: The developer has confirmed that the game has an FOV option.

Love the art and the procedural generation idea. Puts me in might of Torchlight from a first person POV.
Pity, in my view, that it is magic only though. I'd love to play through this as a rogue character!
I'd prefer Hexen over this, despite its obvious age. If this game is compared to Hexen/Heretic then that's a real worry.
I caved in and bought the alpha.... First impressions.

This game has more or less nothing at all in common with Hexen/Heretic - do not get this game if this is what you want. However, it is not a bad game in itself.

Gameplay - you are put into a random map with connected rooms. Each floor have a portal key you need to find and a portal guardian. You wake up the guardian with the key, and need to defeat him to go to the next floor. Rinse and repeat. At the moment there are 5 floors. Most rooms are arenas with x number of minions which must be defeated to open the doors, but some are also trap rooms, special loot rooms or other combat oriented rooms. You start out with a wand, which regenerates mana, and you need to find other weapons (spells) which uses one of the other 3 mana resources which are limited (red, blue and green). So far I have not found many spells, only a frost spell (shot gun) and a fire grenade spell. Mobs drop loot when killed - XP, mana or health, which disappear after a little bit (so you can not camp...). You level up every now and then, which increases you HP and mana pools (not sure about DPS yet) and each time you level up you get a choice between 2 perk 'cards'. As you play, you will unlock more types of perk cards.

There is also a choice of characters you can unlock as you play, the beginning char is vanilla without any pros or cons. You will need to invest quite a lot of time into this game if you want to unlock all chars and perk cards. Not sure yet if there is enough variation to keep you interested for that long.

Graphically, the game somewhat reminds me a lot about the Orcs Must Die series. It has a very annoying motion blur effect, which thankfully can be turned of... The engine is descent and it runs fine on a laptop with intel HD 4000.

If I want to compare it with other games, then the closets would be Tower of Guns - without the spacial game play (Ziggurat is 'flat', all action on one plain) and the turrets. A bit like a more hectic version of Fancy Skull, maybe. Still, it is good for the current price, but it needs a little bit more content.

Thanks for the informative review.
Sounds like a nice FPS roguelike but really nothing like Heretic/Hexen.

Necrothread arises !

I found out Ziggurat just came out on 23/10 on steam (maybe gog would be interested to hear it).
Does anyone have tried it yet ? I 'm interested in roguelites since the Binding of Isaac and I'm looking to decide if it is interesting enough to buy it.

Have it, like it.
Think of a old Doom with random generated levels (therefor leveldesign more like Wolfenstein 3D), with a more Hexen / Heretic-like tileset / enemies.
4 different weapons (which vary a bit depending on which character you play), only 7 levels / bosses - may seem a bit sparse, but fits the frantic playstyle.
Tons, and I mean tons of stuff to unlock be it skill upgrades, 12 different chars to start with... played for about 6 hours and have a shoddy 4 of them.

Check the second video on the Steamstore, as this is pretty much what you get. If you expect anything more beyond that, you'll be disappointed. If that's enough to intrigue you, get it.

Edit: I just played through it once more - about 60 minutes for all 7 lvls and 6 unlocks in one playthrough.

Been wondering what's the state on a GOG / DRM-Free release for this game here's the answer: http://steamcommunity.com/app/308420/discussions/0/613939841481594827/

In short:

The developers see it as a bit of a pain to deliver manual patches as opposed to Steam, and there's also Leaderboards and Achievements in the way (because they rely on the Steam api).

It really itches me how devs blindly program their games around Steam and ignoring alternative methods.

Once Galaxy is out, this shouldn't even be a concern anymore, imo.
