the brynhildr anime cut out the best (most hilarious) parts of the Valkyrie arc like the knife scene and most of the fight. :(

and the ending is kind of a mess since they just show the end result without bothering to explain anything. I mean it's not too hard to guess what happened if you think about it but it's still ridiculous that so much happened offscreen in the first place.

(eh honestly the main reason I'm still following it is to see if pink actually gets knocked up)
Finished Brynhildr in the Darkness. The ending wasn't as bad as I was expecting, but still...

Going for Sunday Without God next .

awalterj: Patema Inverted - story isn't groundbreaking but the environment design and backgrounds are high quality and the soundtrack is awesome. Worth watching.

thanks for heads up, just finished it, it was very enjoyable
I wouldn't mind getting a couple of series recommendations from some people that are knowledgable here.

I'm not a fan of shows like Pokemon, Naruto, Dragonball, Trigun, or things that generally skew towards a younger audience etc.

Series I've enjoyed (starting at the top) include Escaflowne, Samurai Champloo, Death Note, Evangelion, and to a lesser extend Cowboy Bebop.

I checked out Space Dandy recently and was unimpressed (unfortunately). I watched an episode or two of Attack on Titan which I know is all the rage but found the characters boring and overly melodramatic, not to mention, the setup seems like a rehash of Evangelion which didn't enthuse me either.

One of the things that Escaflowne did especially well, that I haven't seen often repeated is the way in which it balanced nuanced characters with a thoroughly interesting world the story explored through its overarching, unfolding narrative. I found out later that there is a particular brand of anime (I don't remember the Japanese terms) that is centered around action that is often described as being for boys and another more focused on character and love stories that is often described as being for girls and that Escaflowne was seen at the time as a hybrid of the two, so maybe that has something to do with its appeal to me as well.

To any aspiring otaku that thinks they can point me in a new direction - feel free - it's about time I find a new series to love post Death Note.

Those would be Shounen and Shoujo respectively .

Try watching these :

-Texhnolyze
-Outlaw Star
-Guilty Crown
-Blue Gender
-The 12 kingdoms
-Shigurui (keep in mind, this one is extremely gory)
-Claymore
-Elfen Lied
-Gungrave
-Code Geass
-Mirai Nikki
-Claymore
-Deadman Wonderland
-Shiki
-Basilisk
-Psycho-Pass
-Parasyte
-Now and Then, Here and There
-Trigun
-Berserk

From your post, Gungrave, Parasyte and Outlaw Star sound most like what you're looking for . Keep in mind, I've never seen Escaflowne .

It only gets better. :D
Just finished Kill la Kill. Liked it, it had lots of violence and fan-service . Gonna watch Ergo Proxy next .
Watched When Marnie Was There, highly recommended. A beautiful film.
Finished The Tatami Galaxy. Very interesting experience. Uses its storytelling methods wisely, though goes a bit over the top with some of it's stuff. Strangely, at the same time I started watching Katanagatari, which has a lot of similar elements. Both very dense though. Don't recommend side by side.
Giant Robo, The Animation, or may be called OVA. It is a 7 episodes series about Mitsuteru Yokoyama's works. Not just a single manga, but a crossover of his mangas. It is a way more advanced anime compared to the "everyday's" anime since its design and story can be compared to only Osamu Tezuka's works. The OVA can be watched without the mangas, but still a very hard work (much like the Hi no Tori).

As for my old time favorit Mitsume ga Tooru, Sailor Moon, and Bubblegum Crisis, this is the fourth anime I ever praised.
Finished Ergo Proxy - very good anime, would recommend .
