F4LL0UT: Infidels - like my lovable yet evil girlfriend - would say that you make people pay for something that they already bought a decade ago but I refuse to see it that way. I choose the romantic thought that I described above. You are my heroes.
This is what GOG is about to me. I've yet to buy a game on GOG that I already own, despite the games I've gotten. When I was a kid my parents only got me "educational" games, so I never got to play any of the stuff on this site. That's why I shop here.

PS: You guys should add Zoombinis to your catalog :3

Titanium: Maybe in retrospect... you know, in the future, when we'll all be anally probed before starting a game to prevent us from pirating it (it will make sense in context), we'll look fondly on the classics like Duke Nukem Forever and Postal 3 where anal probing was still figurative.

Navagon: I've come across people on these forums that insist that new games will be better five years from now. Yeah...
Maybe they were referring to the games being fully patched then, also with various user mods that enhance it further, etc.?

Anyway, as said, I don't think many people object "new" games. They object games they've bought already from e.g. Steam and so on, as in "This release does not interest me because I have the game already elsewhere! Not fair! GOG should not release games I have already!".

Since I have not bought AC and HOMM5 from Steam (nor the US-only Amazon), from my point of view they are more than welcome to arrive here too. In fact, even if I had bought them already elsewhere, I'd still welcome them here. Go figure.

Heh, I knew that anything involving the rectum will inevitably fall into PA turf. :)

If that is the case then some people are destined to be perpetually disappointed. Its going to be hard to put anything of value on the catalog that is remotely recent that people haven't already had ample time to buy from somewhere else.

It feels like it has created a bit of a damned if you do, damned if you don't situation for the site. But just because everyone that really wanted "simi-new game X" has had time to buy it already doesn't mean GOG can't make a business out of moping up the few of us that don't run out and snag the latest every time it comes around the corner. I'm still holding out for Torchlight.

keeveek: I felt really bad when Guillermo said "we will bring you at least one classic game a week" or something like that. One is less than two, guys...

Also, I don't know why GOG.com is expanding it's catalogue so slowly. Two games a week while the competition grows like 30 games a month? I understand it;s not easy to bring oldies back, because you need to optimize them, but for new releases? They should be released more often, imho..
It reminds me of when Nintendo's Virtual Console started seeing releases less frequently. I hope that won't be the same case here.

I don't understand people complaining about a slowdown in the games. I've checked every Tuesday and Thursday like clockwork for the last year, and what they have been giving us constitutes MORE than their average release schedule.

We had 4 games and a pre-release. Before that we had 3 games and a pre-release. Its not subjective that is more by the numbers. I can understand someone wanting more than the average 2 a week, but saying its slowing down doesn't add up.

I'm guessing the slow release schedule is to try and milk every release as much as possible. If 10 new games come out, a user may only have money for 1, and forget about the others. Move more slowly and maybe people buy a higher number of releases. Just a guess.

I refer mostly to "we will try to bring you at least one oldie a week". I am afraid that this will mean just one oldie a week for most of the time...

I think it would be in their best interest to try and make it four games a week now. Shoot for one "oldie" and one newer title per release day.

Though I'm still not sure what constitutes an "oldie." Is it a game released before 2006? '05, 03', '97? I think most people define it as, when I was 13.
As an oldie I see a game that is considered classic. It might be from 2007 or 2008, at least it's considered to be a milestone or something like that.

I also opt strongly for 4 releases a week (2 new, 2 old), but it seems they're sticking with old Tue Thu release schedule, and that bothers me.

Expanding the catalogue but not expanding the releases numbers...

keeveek: Great letter. We share the exact thoughts. The only way to not harm old releases is staying the way it was. New old releases tue and thu.
You want to bring us new games? Fine, but please make it in different weekdays.

If there isn't two new old releases a week, I think I will stop visiting the store. I don't want to be disappointed with some Assassin's Creeds or another indie game that everybody already have.

WE WANT OLD GAMES to stay on gog. (mostly, and most of us ;p) I don't think when you saw your poll results anybody wanted new releases to be made INSTEAD OF old ones. We wanted newer games to be released as an addition. Not replacement.

I think that the old release schedule they use to have was 6 each month. Count them if you like.

More like 8 - not counting the few times when they provided an announcement of an announcement instead of a new release.
And the times they don´t sale new games as in Christmas and summer, the average rate was 6, someone in the community made it some time ago...

Another one.
Il say this again.
All newer games will sooner or later get older and some of the new games will turn into classics.
The reason games are turning into classics is not because a game is old but rather because the game is good and representative for its genre or playstyle or other stuff.
But it got nothing to do with age.

If a game iis 5 years old, it is usally considered as old unless theres expansions coming out that extend the freshness of the particullar game a bit.
