catpower1980: I like that as the original was already ugly back in the days (that's why I didn't bought it when it was out on GOG) so I hope this remake will come early as I will surely dive back into just to finish it a 3th time :o)
To be honest, I really liked the graphics! And I'm not talking about the past times; I played for the first time recently. The only thing I don't like very much is the cyberspace; while I find it nicely designed (vector graphics and dark setting), it doesn't match the detail of the rest of the game in my opinion, plus I found it sometimes difficult to see where I should go. Maybe if you couldn't see through the "walls", it would be easier to navigate.

Having said that, I really like what I see in the remake screenshots. I just hope the guns will be more visible this time. And while this will seem crazy to some, I prefer the enhanced version controls to remain, at least as an option. Weird I know! :P

I really the looks of the remake. I think it's a good mix of modern and old aesthetics, the colors palette they've taken from the original looks really bold in contrast to most modern games.

One of my main gripes with most HD remakes has always been, that when the devs bring those 256 color images to modern age, they often make the games look less interesting, like that Gabriel Knight remake for an example. While it was an okay game, it still lost in aesthetics to the original, as the 256 color graphics had much bolder and eye popping use of color, where as the remake just looked bland with its less interesting use of color.

toxicTom: Huh? System Shock looked fantastic when it came out in 1994. Ok, not the monsters. Doom 2 was state of the art in 1994. SS wasn't as "fluent" as the latter but had much better lighting fx. It had more "blocky" map design, but also sloped floors.
Good point that you cited Doom because that was a bit my point as it aged better graphically for me than SS. The thing is that while SS had more technical advanced stuff, its art style wasn't perfect for the technology at the time (you should play full screen at 640x480 to refresh your memory ^o^), it had more emphasis on "realism" than cartoony FPS like Blake Stone (or later Duke Nukem):

To take another example, compare Terminal Velocity and Star Fox (the one on SNES/Famicom)....

In general, games from the mid-90's highly suffered from the transition to 3D as most of them are now ugly as hell . Actually, it would be fun to see all games of those era getting remade this way as it could show what could have been done back then with today technology

I'm playing SS at least once a year. And I've never finished it...

I think the higher resolutions of the EE really pronounce how blurry the enemy sprites are (objects are ok). The architecture and lighting is still marvellous.
Well, Doom... IMO it didn't age that well, visually. The gameplay is still top-notch of course.

At the end, the hero discovers the reptilians have taken over the world so he changes into a lion and eat them all, it was all a dream a Shodan was a pink teddy bear based on Marvin Gaye.....

Well, I didn't re-finish the game since the mid 90's so my memory could be wrong :o)

PS: Finish it at least once, the main joy I had in this game was exploring every inches of the space station ;)
it would be much much better if night dive would pay all the people that fixed, patched, improved and enchanced ss and ss2 instead of doing a remake.

Now that you mention it, the guy from the original box art would look great as a purple monkey.
