I'm kinda sick of these low life moronic teenage-wannabe thugs that have been around here for a while now. Scammers, spammers, shit posters, alternate over alternate accounts made by the same random ass no lifer somewhere in this world (Seriously who the hell wastes their time on this? This is a whole new level of lack of intelligence. Humanity is doomed.), derepers, self-uprepers (Now that's a whole new level of lame) etc.

Now I'm going to spare the blues the effort of coming here and giving me the basic "Reputation doesn't really matter." or "Stop the giveaways." type of responses. They are wrong in both cases, regardless of what they or the corporate heads might say and think. Reputation is part of the system. Many people here have been around since the very dawn of GOG and may actually care about it. Why? Because it's part of the system. If you truly think rep is useless then why is it even there? Why don't you just go over there to the techies and ask them on our behalf to kindly replace it with something better? Can't be that hard, can it?

I've been on the CDPR forums. They are nothing like this. Why instead of a down rep button don't we have only a up rep button like there? Yes, I am well aware that this system would be susceptible to abuse as well, but with the help of the search function and join dates regulars here can easily identify the scammers and bad apples.

Or how about just make certain forum regulars who have X rep be able to either up rep and down rep? Not that great of a system, but at least it works, as opposed to the current system which is kinda really freakin' BLEH!

I don't know. I'm just spouting whatever seems reasonable in my mind for a solution, but your "Just wait! A solution is coming responses." started to bore me. A solution should have been here for quite a while. Why does it take so much drama and loss in sales for anyone to act? Now maybe the corporate heads there in the big offices don't really care for the few purchases that regulars here do for giveaways, for gifting and other miscellaneous stuff. But when did it become a feasible business technique to just pass on any number of sales? When did it become hard to make already paid workers fix some pretty minor things in the forums, things that should be minuscule in difficulty and time investment compared to Galaxy.

I'm not one to preach at a wall or speak to a dead or bored audience, so I won't continue this conversation any further. I am going to be frank and tell you I'm not making any purchases around here until you solve this. I have a backlog of quite a few games. It will last me a while. Whether you solve this issue in 1 week or 1 year, it doesn't really matter. My backlog will last.
You've got my vote. +1 :P

Take it from someone who's been a volunteer mod for a well known forum. They're probably extremely busy to fix anything.

I don't doubt that work exists or more work can be found, but how long does it take to fix this? I believe complaints started appearing around the very end of 2014 - beginning of 2015 if not earlier.
nah. i think the reputation system serves its purpose though i've personally seen how it can "destroy" communities.

i would still prefer stricter rules, more moderators, and maybe automated bot moderation with meta-moderation to self-regulate it.

I have no idea how this would work outside of just searching for specific keywords and deleting posts with them.
Can you give me a short summary, what's going on here? I've been browsing GOG's forums less frequently last couple of weeks, now I see some boycott posts? What is it about? :-S

It starts here with a thread made to get GOGs attention to a problem of a troll with multiple accounts sending people threats, insults, and link-to-things-I'd rather-not-click-on.

The lack of reaction from the powers that be results in it spilling into another thread.

Along the way we get attacked by the Followers of the Nigerian Prince.

After that a great and generous giveaway is disrupted and ended, as described here, by mass downvoting of all participants, and a troll impersonating the giveaways author.

As of now, the only reaction from GOG is some vague promises of "we are listening and will do things, only we probably won't".

Wow, that's sad. Thank you for the summary. Now I see why I lost some rep last days.

Anyway, GOG is aware of that issue and I hope we'll see the solution soon (not soon™).

Mostly agreeing except for one element of these rants :

Is this forum THAT important ? I've been participating in it (more enthousiastically back when I was overestimating it), but, the base of GOG is GOG, not its pseudo-community. How many sites (info, shops, etc) do you "use" without paying attention to their forums ? Is that a big deal ?

As GOG grows and so does the diversity of its forumers, it is bound to resemble more and more to society as a whole. The same mentalities, the same abuses, the same retarded discourses and self-justifications... The same foruming content as everywhere else, with the same "why we can't have the nice things" (remember innocent, light-hearted, spontaneous, careless giveaways? mostly murdered now by "stop clogging the forum with giveaways" crowds and by the leechers/scammers... remember the self-moderation keeping bigots at bay without even devolving into flamewars? this specificity has gone too). Its illusion of being special fades. And so what ? Most of ius as receeding from the forum for normal reasons. How does this relate to GOG as a whole ? Is the forum community the reason why you bought and play games from here ? Is is why GOG exists ?

As far as I'm concerned, the forums may sink to hell (aka : to normality), it can be regrettable, but it's really peripheral to GOG. I don't see it impact my usage of the "real site". I don't think more importance should be given to these forums, by the GOG clients, than by the GOG owners themselves.

My point is : even if I cared more for this forum (or internet forumsin general), I wouldn't use indirect means to impact it. Especially, I wouldn't hierarchize the GOG shop anf the GOG forums in a way to make the former a mean and the latter a purpose. I could use the forum to nag about the shop, but not the other way round.

I'm not against complaining about the forums, but I just thing that involving the shop is a weird shift of perspective and priorities.

We haven't seen the codebase.

I imagine something like Finnegan's Wake written along the strands of a pile of spaghetti.
Yeah it's been getting pretty annoying lately especially since one of them is rep attacking me everyday and bringing my rep down. Besides that the posts by them are annoying by their/his new accounts. Not to mention the rude chat messages and the spam in chat as well.

Since i started posting every few months a thread like this one pops up.
Heck, thanks to some hate pms i stopped wasting my time here.
I guess its the price for more popularity.
For me GOG should delete the (useless) rep system.
That and a strict policy including forum bans would take away the fun for
those people.
