We're launching the weekend early this week as good things should last longer. You've been waiting for this promo for a while, and it's finally here!

You knew this day will finally come, and at last you can grab the great Dungeons & Dragons classics, including Baldur's Gate, Planescape: Torment or Neverwinter Nights, for prices so crazy you have to figure that we're Chaotic Neutral. With this deal we're also testing a totally new promo system that gives you a bigger discount the more games you buy in one order. We're starting with a 20% discount if you buy one game from the offer. Every another game from the promo that you add to the order increases your discount with another 5%, so 2 games get you 25% off, 3 games get you 30% off and so on, until you get a 60% discount on your order of the whole D&D collection. Of course if you already own some of the games from the promo they will count towards your final discount!

The promo ends on Monday, September 26 at 11:59 p.m. EDT, so there's no time to lose, and you'll never know when a similar occasion will happen again.

Leroux: Your reasoning would also mean that the more choice there is in a promo (e.g. big publisher), the less attractive the individual discounts might turn out.
Agreed, it does all remains to be seen. Maybe I'm being overly optimistic, but I think a lot of the people upthread are being overly pessimistic - so maybe it all evens out in the end :)

And yes, I'd say that it seems likely that big packs will likely be less attractive than smaller if this system is used. But that's always been the way with the old up to-sales too. When there's a "buy this publisher's entire catalog to get the big discount" there's always many that it's not attractive to, but if it's a "buy all three games in this game series to get the big discount" it's much more probably that it will be an attractive offer. Now it would be more of a sliding scale, but otherwise the same problem with big packs.
This is why I only own a handful of games from gog. They almost never put up good sales, and they alienate those people who own a semi-decent classic game collection. I own over half those games, and have been waiting for BG1 to go on sale, only to find they're offering me a $2 discount...yay....

I understand that it's a decent price, but as a sale, it's garbage, and is once again why Steam gets the majority of my gaming money. As we speak they have the Sega classic collection (40 games) for sale for $7.50, less than I'd pay for BG1. That is a sale. This bunk about variable discounts that penalize people who already own a smattering of classics is one of the worst marketing ideas ever.

Nice try gog.com, but until you get back to the flat sale prices (40 or 50% off), you won't be seeing any scratch from me.

Then DRM-free and extras aren't that important to you. That's fine.
Go Gog! :-)

I will be honest, I have purchased stuff that I won't play for a few weeks, but heck, the price was so good. ;-)

If only other companies would get a hint and make their software cheaper too........

Some of us aren't here because it's DRM-free or there's extra's we're likely to never look at.

michaelar: GOG, you guys are such huge nerds. Keep it up. =)

Taleroth: *pushes glasses up*

This is a total misunderstanding of the alignment system!
Somewhat, but usually people rp ChaNeu as just absolutely starkers, so I thought it applied. :P
Hmm, I'm a bit surprised to see criticism of the new promo system. While it doesn't have any particular advantage or disadvantage for me (I simply buy the whole package anyway, as I own none of the game yet in English and I would want most of them anyway), I thought that the new promo system would reward customers who already bought some of the games in the promo, by letting these games count towards the bonus. Is that not the case?

Well, some of us *are* here because it's DRM free and wouldn't touch Steam with a 10 mile pole. So, this sale was for people like me, and we couldn't be happier... And again, as previously stated, that's fine.
own 7 of the games on that list already.
The remaining 2 I wouldn't bother with considering I don't know them and the ratings they got a re quite low ( for GOG )

Good for "some of us." It's still a lousy promo system that really only rewards people who own next to no classic games. DRM doesn't bother me at all unless it's so oppressive that it prevents me from playing the game entirely. As for extras....yeah, useless. I'm not against gog.com, and I understand that their goal is to make as much money as possible, but it's clear that Steam has realized that better (static) sales are far more likely to drive up sales. Gog did it once, and then they fumbled the ball and went back to this garbage. Here's hoping they get back on track for the holiday sales.
They could just do like they started out with and give 40%-50% off the selected game or games. I dislike this promo very much and will not use it now or in the future.

Yes, that much is true. But it's not all there is to it. Especially not if It comes at the cost of lower starting discounts, which remains to be seen. Let's suppose the 30-50% promos would be replaced by this system, always starting at 20% (which is only hypothetical, of course; only time will tell).

In that case the deal would be a better one for everyone who already owns three games or who owns two and intends to buy more than one. And it would get better with each new purchase. But for those who don't own anything yet and can't afford or don't want to buy more than two games, the deal would be worse than before, because obviously it would be only 20% or 25% off instead of 30%.

(Btw, the criticism is not necessarily aimed at THIS particular promo, just at the introduction of the new system; if you don't own these D&D games yet, buying the whole package at this price is definitely worth it. Unfortunately I already own the retail copies of most of them and seldom replay games.)

Oh why did you have to do this promo now! I was planning to swear off all game purchases until X-mas and you put the best games evar for 60% off. It would sure be nice to have GOG versions of all these games and never mess with the pile of CDs and DRM removal again. Hmmmm.

And I love the look of the new promo system. You guys always impress with your design.
Semi random question:

If Planescape Torment is the second most wanted game on GOG.COM, what's the first?
I Would get the package, but my currency is on free fall now, meaning that im paying a lot more now with this incoming crisys, how inconvenient.
