We're launching the weekend early this week as good things should last longer. You've been waiting for this promo for a while, and it's finally here!

You knew this day will finally come, and at last you can grab the great Dungeons & Dragons classics, including Baldur's Gate, Planescape: Torment or Neverwinter Nights, for prices so crazy you have to figure that we're Chaotic Neutral. With this deal we're also testing a totally new promo system that gives you a bigger discount the more games you buy in one order. We're starting with a 20% discount if you buy one game from the offer. Every another game from the promo that you add to the order increases your discount with another 5%, so 2 games get you 25% off, 3 games get you 30% off and so on, until you get a 60% discount on your order of the whole D&D collection. Of course if you already own some of the games from the promo they will count towards your final discount!

The promo ends on Monday, September 26 at 11:59 p.m. EDT, so there's no time to lose, and you'll never know when a similar occasion will happen again.
Awesome, I've played Demon Stone twice in the past day and both times I'm left with an incredibly strong headache.

It's one of those games... it joins the rank of games like Duke Nukem 3D and Half-Life. Something about the visuals gives me a massive headache.

*pops two aspirins*

Ugh.
Bought them all as this is my "dream" promo I was waiting for.

Now, for someone that have never played any of these games, what would be the appropriate order to play? Please keep in mind that I need first to get used to the D&D play style.

Beckman67: Ok so i bought them all... Which one should i try first? I'm new to these types of games.
I`ve owned MOSTLY ALL of these on Disc when they came out and played them all. I would play the following order due to Story arc : BG1 , then BG2, then IWD 1,and IWD 2. NWN 1 should be next.
Planescape and Temple are stand-alones based in Forgotten Realms universe with PST being the Better of the 2.You decide on those.
Demon Stone and Dragonshard - I have not played ; but they look the least appealing , so I would do those LAST.
If you are really into spectacular Graphics - you could start with NWN 1, but BG 1 & 2, followed by IWD 1 & 2 would be your BEST bet for order of those 4.
If Great story is what you`re after ; it`s Hard to beat PST.
Have Fun - You have MANY hours ahead of you for GREAT gaming. These are really FUN.

I cracked and bought them at the last minute. I still hate this awful promo system. No more purchases on GOG until next year now.

I've taken the opposite approach and am playing Demon Stone first - start with the least awesome and save the others for when I've more time (I'll go with the order of BG1+2,IWD1+2 then NWN when I get round to those). I'm familiar enough with D&D for that not to be an issue but I've not played any of these games before.
Demon Stone's not the same as the others (BG,IWD) since it's hack'n'slash, arcade, button mashing rather than click-mouse role-playing. I've only got one chapter in but it seems the levelling is also different (auto-equipment-shops at the end of levels rather than going to a town and selling/buying equipment). Still, it's narrated by Patrick Stewart so it's worth playing through for that LOL.
I'll give Dragonshard a quick play and see how it is later.
Then I think I'll play Planescape before getting into BG.
choices choices ...
Well, I'm in too. It was quite hard to decide to buy them all, because I have BG+ICW+NWN series on CD's, but GOG service and digital download + DMR free and Win 7 working + this price = convinced me.
Now I must find a lot of free time. That will be too hard...

I ended up getting all but Demon Stone and Dragonshard. Sure, those two might have been only a buck-fifty more, but I don't see myself getting around to ever playing them. At the current rate my backlog is unlikely to shrink anytime soon, as is.

Chronon88: Would someone share their opinion on these compared to the similar games released today? What would those best newer options be?
Everyone has their own favorites among current-technology RPGs. If your emphasis is on story, Witcher 1+2 are both strong (and both here on GOG). Dragon Age 1 and Mass Effect both have well-developed story lines, they are a bit more action-oriented, but not as much as some suggest. Their respective sequels are both highly action-oriented and less geared toward the RPG elements, which has distracted from the elegance of the originals. Oblivion is popular and is probably the best of the pure sandbox RPG envrionments. Two Worlds 2 has its fans, but I haven't played it yet; it just came out with a big and pricey expansion. I am also personally fond of Knights of the Old Republic 1+2. The first one is on Steam, but not the second. Another GOG RPG worth checking out, if you enjoyed the Infinity engine titles, is Arcanum.

Right now I am playing Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes, which is more of a puzzler's RPG, and I'm finding it incredibly addictive. It also has an active multiplayer community.
as are some of the Premium Modules (Pirates of the Sword Coast and Wyvern Crown of Cormyr especially).

Taleroth: As I understand it, they're completely unplayable now. The DRM that controlled them has been shut down. As in it won't authorize ever. Only playable premium modules are the ones from the Kingmaker pack (included with the GOG version).
Last I heard is that the Premium module installers can still be downloaded from BioWare and apparantly the DRM isn't working anymore (meaning it authorizes for EVERYONE), so that even those who didn't buy the Premium modules could download and play them now without any issues. But there was no official statement about it and I doubt it would be legal. I'd much prefer the right owners to make them available for purchase again. :(

This is the sale I've been waiting for. I picked them all up.

For this style of sale though, this list of games is the only one where I can see liking the "buy more, save more" system more than the old system of sales. In almost every sale up until now, I've only wanted 1 or 2 games out of the whole bunch of them.

Now to try to get that Big World Project mod to work on BG1 and BG2.

On this note, I downloaded Kingmaker and tried to install it. Didn't work. Got an error each time (thrice). It seems that having it patched to higher than 1.66 (IIRC) was the problem.

Are we supposed to be able to install and play this with NWN, even if we haven't bought Kingmaker back in the day?
I broke down and bought the whole set as well. I still have all but 2 of these on CD but always planned to get the DRM-free version when the chance came and here it is. All of them great games. I think I have crossed the line and become a collector - I have way more games than I have time to play now. I'll have to see what demon stone and dragonshard are like sometime.

Arcanum: Of Steamworks is HIGHLY recommended to anyone that enjoys this series of games.it is an RPG steeped in a Steampunk world ; kind of like somewhere between Fallout and Baldurs Gate. You can follow the Tecnologists path and build weapons, or follow the Magic path and ....well..use magic. I played through once as a Mage ; but am going to replay as a Technologist.

Thanks guys really appreciate your response.

Heheh, actually I'm kind of even more screwed because I bought the whole pack and heard about these games. Been looking for Witcher and I really need to check out that Two Worlds II on GameTap. I think I'll try that one as my next RPG before cracking up these probably aweasome D&D games. (Still yet to decide which one to start with =P)
