Crosmando: I prefer AoE1 too, mostly because I like the setting. AoE2 has guns and cannons which I feel ruin the medieval setting.
To be fair, about half of the middle ages they fought with cannons and other gunpowder weapons. In Europe first the mongols, then around the 13th century others adopted them too.

Sulibor: Just a quick question, I was wondering about purchasing age of empires package, as I only own AoE1. Could you advise if the DRM free edition you have, is the Ubisoft Exclusive one?

No, not that one. The link in my post above shows which one, but it is not an Ubisoft release. No mention of Ubisoft on the box. Just Microsoft and Ensemble studios.

OldFatGuy: Ah, Age Of Empires, the original, and still the best. I still play this all the time.

You can get it here and it's 100% DRM-free, and so far has worked on every Windows version I've ever loaded it on (XP, Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 10, which is what I'm currently using).

Once you install it, there is NO disc check, or any other DRM. It's DRM-free legitimately. And it is still the best of them all.

I am a purist and prefer unmodded versions of games, but I cannot recommend this HD mod enough.
Woohoo, I didn't know about that patch.
Might motivate me to finally start up the collector's edition I baught years ago.
