Thanks for all your reply folks. Seems many enjoy the gifting threads. I also had done a quick search to see if the subject of separate forums had ever come up before and I obviously missed the prior threads about it.

Game on!!!
Unnecessary at the moment
I support the idea. Divide and conquer! >:D
This has been discussed and dismissed please let this topic rot in hell, besides give it a week or so and this same topic will have a new thread with no new content.
Why not just add an individualized forum filter so if you add the word "gift" for example you won't see gift threads with that word as a title? I'm no web programmer but I know basic HTML and there's not way a professional web programmer can't be able to pull that off unless the original code for this forum is dreadful to begin with that adding more features is just redundant.
I'm new to the discussion, can someone summarize why this is such a bad idea for me?

People are afraid if a gift section becomes available it will be easier for scammers to get the gifts or abusers who will just take it because it's free. To me this seems like a low issue since the problem in the first place is that there are so damn many gifting on this site that it will easily attract attention not to mention there are ways to filter out scammers. Also, a few have made some poor argument that there won't be any "hidden gifting" too.

Actually, that's only part of the issue. The other concern is that if they start dividing the forum, they will keep dividing until we end up losing the general forum entirely to different subforums for each topic people feel should be separated. Part of what made this community so great in the first place was the general forum and we don't want that to go away.
Thanks for the replies. I can't say I agree with the reasoning but at least now I'll understand what everyone is talking about. :)
I think we should have a separate section where people who want to suggest moving the gifting threads from the general discussion can post

Boo. Bad idea! It will split the community. Does this topic need to be brought up again?!?! Ermehgerd!

I think it's necessary until either a blue gives an insight to their plans on the forum (no vague answers..) or a change happens. ;)
I understand the drive from people to get a discussion thread that's not giveaway related. I support that.

I understand the concerns that if such a measure were implemented then it would just be a magnet for scripters etc. to just trawl.

I think Cogadh then gave you the answer with his suggestion of a topic type filter. Tagging a thread as a gift is mostly done anyway by appending "- Giveaway" to the title, so it seems the user input is there, and the facility is there for gog to provide a method for people to filter it.

So - my vote, semantic tagging of posts, and filtering out of those that we don't want by that criteria.

If anything should get a subforum, it's the news releases that GOG keeps spamming us with. It's like a daily event. :-)
