tinyE: I think what he's trying to say is that he wants me to leave the forum. XD Of course, I've never been really good at picking up on subtleties as such. :P

WAIT...when did this turn to me anyway!? Shit I'm boring. Lets get back to Star Wars. Nearest theater is 50 miles away but you know that isn't stopping me from Episode 7, good or bad.
ill wait for the discount dvd to appear on ebay

You can bet anything Timothy Zahn wrote is great.
And when it comes to comic books, Crimson Empire was really enjoyable.
I quite enjoyed Darth Plagueis because of its intrigues and the two main characters.
I went through some of them like: Luke skywalker and the shadow of mindor or the han solo trilogy or the new jedi order books and much more.
While they werent anything i personally would recommend to anyone they were still interesting to read and some of them would be great for movie plot.

Although its true i dont remember that much from them (but that is possibly because i went through so many of them in a really short time and never gave them time to sink in properly)

Anyway, what i am saying is that if you have the time to read them do it. They offer a great way for fans to know more about the star wars lore.
I find that some of the series can have high and low points purely because they bounce between some good and some mediocre authors. I like Aaron Allston best, and Karen Traviss is pretty good too (read the Republic Commando series).

Totally different styles too. One guy is fluid and poetic and another reads like stereo instructions. Star Wars' problem with this is minor next to all the D&D and Forgotten Realms series.

That's kinda what made the New Jedi Order series so tedious... apart from the fact that it was NINETEEN books...
Read the books Zhan wrote and burn the rest. (Hell lets set stackpole himself on fire while we are at it)

2 things:

1) Zahn is good but he's just one angle on a rich universe. You will miss a lot if you don't try some of the others.

2) You're forgetting about "illuminating" Kevin J. Anderson.
Ah yes, he was just as bad. While there are some good authors in the mix, it's not the best signal to noise ratio. And really a "good" author is like a "good" game. Something that is just taking up your time that could be spent on a Great piece of media instead. Of course if you are a rabid Star Wars fan as I once was, rest well knowing that you still have a better pool of authors than dragonlance (another series I read far too much of).
