The buzz around GOG's closure and re-opening has slowly faded away and we wanted to sum up the beta stage with a special gift for all those who have been with us during that period. Two years ago we began our revival of all-time PC-gaming classics for all you fans of good old games. Through ups and downs we’ve received a lot of support from the best community we could ever imagine (that’s you!) and we want to thank everyone who’s been with us through our beta stage with a special gift.

Any user who created an account before we closed down the site and moved out of beta (that's September 20, 2010) will receive Jagged Alliance: Deadly Games for free! We'll be adding the game automatically to your accounts during the next days, so don't worry if the game is not yet there.

Of course, we're not forgetting about all those users who joined the GOG family in the last few weeks. Together with Strategy First we're launching a special promotion to offer their GOG catalogue at a 50% discount.

If you've been a part of GOG beta and you already bought Jagged Alliance: Deadly Games, please click here, as we have an alternative gift for you.

Thanks for being with us!
Sweet! Thanks!
Thank you! It was a nice surprise, especially nice that those who already bought the gift could choose an alternative! Cheers and keep up the great work (no nonsense approach on all areas, I only really disliked the "we are closing down" marketing stunt)!

desic: Secondly, I can't believe so many people are complaining about receiving a free game!

On the other hand, if you are still upset at receiving a gift, you should really be placing the blame on yourself for not buying the game before-hand thus forcing GOG to give you the alternate title.

I apologize for the rant, it's not my intention to flame, but sometimes I can't help myself from writing the obvious comments.

robobrien: Where are all these complaints? I flipped back a couple of pages and it seems everyone is handing GOG a thankyou, even if the game isn't one they like.
For the most part, you are right; the vast majority of the comments on here are positive. There are a few comments however that are very critical of the game selection made by GOG to be given as a gift. I don't want to quote any comment because I would like to avoid directing my annoyance to any particular user - those types of arguments turn out pretty ugly in forums!

I should really just say my thank yous and let it be, but I find that the level of service I get from GOG to be above and beyond what I have grown to expect from any company. The sales, the contests, and even the occasional free games we get for being members all add up to a really great consumer experience. When I see someone put such nasty comments for receiving a gift, it just rubs me the wrong way!

I'm afraid, this is turning into a rant; so let me stop myself here and say again: Thanks GOG. I appreciate all the efforts you guys put into getting us these titles!
Been two years all ready!, Time flies when you got Good Old Games to play with :)
Thanks gog for the free game! You guys are awesome!

I don't think my comment is nasty -- I simply wanted a choice to not accept the game or not. Now every time I look at my games list, I have to see this game I did not purchase, and that rubs me the wrong way.

Choice is good, forcing you to accept something you don't want is not. That's all. It's not nasty.

Now, back to playing games!
Thanks for the gift/alternative gift, GOG. This, this is the good PR.

I already owned JA:DG, so I went with Sacred Gold.

Here's hoping that GOG gets all the titles from both the Combat Mission and Strategic Command series. And other games published by Battlefront would be welcomed too, of course. *hint hint*

lilsypha: I don't think my comment is nasty
You're right. I am a little harsh on my comments - specifically, the word "Nasty" is probably uncalled for. I understand the point you are making on having choice, but I don't agree with it. The choice to download is still yours. Analogy: If I purchase a game on GOG and gift it to you, would you be upset if you didn't like the game? (Don't get your hopes up, I'm not in the habit of gifting games for fun.;) )

The last time GOG gave a title away as a gift for members (Tex Murphy 1 and 2), it was offered as a limited time option. If you missed your chance, you didn't get the game. By placing the game in every one's account, GOG does not discriminate against members who visit the site less often. Maybe you are right and GOG should think up a new way to offer games that will please everyone...
...until then, I hope GOG will be able to meet your request.

Don't count on it. When BF was told on their forums that Strategy First had put CM:BO here, they were quite quick to point out that they would not be offering any sort of help with it, and weren't that impressed.

Besides, they still sell the CM series for $25 apiece from their own web store. And both CMBB and CMAK have issues with Vista and DirectX10 graphics cards. The Battlefront versions have been fixed, otherwise they charge a few bucks for the fix patch.

Cool, thanks. Though getting Plant Scape: Torment (which I am extremely temped to buy again) and Raptor: Call of the Shadows on GOG was enough for me.
