I'm playing the first game in the series and, while the background sound effects are decent, I really like some background music in my games. What alternate soundtracks do people use/recommend?

Well I'd only tried it for a few minutes but Icewind Dale's soundtrack seems to fit the mood well. I would expect the other D&D games to offer similar soundtracks.

The only problem is the lack of any musical triggers, it's not going to start playing the combat music when combat starts obviously. You could do it manually I guess but that'd probably end up being a chore in the end. Maybe separate them into playlists by mood and hotkey them somehow with a music program, I don't know but the music definitely helps with immersion quite a bit, it definitely felt like a fuller game while the music was playing.

I don't know, I'll probably just stick it on shuffle and hope it randomly picks appropriate music :/

Yes, you are indeed a worthy foe!

Anyway, my recommended would be Static-X, Drowning Pool and Spineshank. They do the trick, except when I get to the Geneforge main mission background music effects. I love that one!

There should be an extended mix! The Geneforge tracks are so short.

I actually think ambient sound is preferable to music for immersion.
I've been using the King's Bounty Crossroads OST music...

Or ambient music (like the earlier albums from The Orb for example), something that doesn't have much by way of tunes or lyrics to distract you but fills out that missing feeling your senses require. I think the electronic/futuristic (non-dance music) sounds meld better with Geneforge than orchestral.

Could always go with Aphex Twin's "Selected Ambient Works Vol. 2"
This is a little old but I don't care.
I am playing through Geneforge 2 at the moment after completing the first one a while ago.
The pleasantly minimalist design and storytelling is refreshing and the setting is interesting, it's a little quiet though! With the exception of sudden eating noises and the whoosh of a candle turning on.

If you're not familiar with mynoise.net it's the ultimate ambient soundscape generator for whatever your purpose is.

Here's what I'm trying with Geneforge 2:

Desert Wind + Canyon tonal drone + In The Sky vocal generator(eerie windy pretty atmosphere)

I can't post links so add mynoise dot net slash to the start of the following:
superGenerator.php?g1=enliaVocalSoundscape.php%3Fc%3D3%26l%3D4141414157575757666800&g2=canyonDroneGenerato r.ph p%3Fc%3D3%26l%3D6964595500003039424400&g3=saharaWindNoiseGenerator.php%3Fc%3D3%26l%3D315464695739374742370 0&g4 =&g5=&yt=

I can't post the link to the supergenerator I made so you'll have to make it youself I guess!

Tell me if you think you can do better!
