In all my years of gaming I've never really tried any point and click adventures, but I got the GK1 Remake for free at some sale some time ago, so I figured I'd start with that.

But the very first puzzle is a real pain in the ass, trying to lead the mime the few steps to his destination without him being distracted by the other aimlessly wandering characters. If I slug it out and manage to do it, should I expect more of the same? Trying to aim an action to a tiny time window with lagging controls, that is, or something similarly annoying.

Plus I think the Gabriel character is a bit of a dumbass, so I'm not sure if I want to spend a lot of time with him.

So is it worth it?

I also got Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis a while ago, perhaps that would be better.
The mime puzzle is the only "lead person A to point B" puzzle in the game, so if that's your biggest complaint, then it gets better later.

Gabriel's character does develop over the course of the game, and he's not as much of a lout at the end of the game as he was at the beginning, but it is a gradual process; he's still a cad on day two, for example.

At the risk of SPOILING the next few days, other puzzles involve such things as stealing police property, translating a simple German phrase, cracking a secret code, and paying attention to a lecture.

have a feeling you are just not a point and click fan these are old real adventure games and are not hold your hand telltale games with no brain power required to beat them. Im guessing you are already using a walkthrough. No shame if they are not your thing for instance I find racing games terribly boring, doesnt mean that racing games are bad just not my thing.

Yup.
I took a breather for a day and managed to do the mime thing on the next try. It's been a lot more fun since then, though there's been some trouble getting used to the game mechanics and character behavior. For example (SPOILER!) I tried to get the photocopy of the case file by messing with the thermostat to have Franks leave her desk to put some more clothes on, but instead it had to be done by acting like an ass and asking for yet another photo and doing it that way even though Franks and Mosley can plainly see Franks' desk from the mirror/window.

But anyway, it's a fun game and I'm making progress!

There are actually two items you need to steal from the police. Turning up the thermostat helps you steal the other item.

You need to do something else to get Officer Franks away from her desk for the photocopies.

Just finished playing this, it was truly a great game, and definitely just the start of my pointing and clicking. Thanks again for the advice, would have missed a great experience if I gave up back then.

Onto GK2 then, I'm a bit wary of how I'll get along with that one, never having played any FMV stuff before, but I figure I'll have to at least give it a shot before moving on to GK3, which I've been thinking of playing ever since its release back in... 1999, whoa. I actually tried a demo version of that back then, but couldn't really understand the mechanics since I was just a kid playing mostly sports and shooters.
