I'm going to bed later and later. And when I sleep, I keep doing ship tactics in my head. I tell myself I will take a day off, but then I think of something I want to try out and I get hooked back in.
It is that amazing of a game. Who hasn't wanted to commandeer their own spaceship? The fact that it is rogue-like gives it a lot of replay-ability to me. Sometimes I am doing so well, and then a random encounter completely decimates my crew and I think, "Maybe next time I'll make it further." I think that is what keeps on drawing me back in. It has a killer OST too.

Yep, FTL is like crack. Better get your fix before the Government bans it for health reasons!

But you don't "chase the dragon", the rebel fleet chases you!

And each time is better than the last, yet you're always thinking of the next time and how much better that run will be.

Until you win.

But then you find you've unlocked a different ship layout, or an entirely different ship! And you know you want to try that one, right? What's one more game? It'll only take a little while, right? What's the harm? You'll be fine, you can survive on 6 hours of sleep! Yeah, 5 hours of sleep is OK. Sure, 4 hours, you can deal with that. Some people don't need more than 3 hours of sleep, right? Hell only 2 hours of sleep - might as well just not sleep at all! Ah you'll be OK, you can sleep when you're dead!

Just ensure you don't start confusing real life with FTL. For instance, if there's a fire in your building, screaming "SEND IN THE ROCKMEN" or telling people to "VENT THE AIRLOCK DOORS" will probably not go down too well...

I didn't really pay that much attention to it when I first got it, but the new tracks from AE are killer!

Good one! :)
If I were to narrow it down, I'd say there are two reasons why the game is crazy addictive:

1.) It is expertly paced and just the right length. You do not invest hours into your playthrough, you are winging it for no more than a couple of hours

2.) The mechanics are very transparent and immediately after you have lost you can easily identify WHY you lost. What mistake did I make? Why didn't I plan for this possible encounter? I should have gone left but I went right. The game does not even have to ask you to play again, it is already in our very nature to try and make it right the next time if we have the option. How many of you have not felt the urge to take the same quiz immediately after finishing it the first time and learned how the results algorithm interprets your answers? The second time you know what questions will be asked and you will be ready for them! BRING IT ON!
just started playing a couple of days ago.. im liking it more and more. i like the pacing and the quirks of the various races (how they stab you in the back!!). unlocked 2 more ships but im used to the kestral so sticking with that for the moment. hotline miami, risk of rain, binding of isaac.. these were addictive to me too, but got bored really fast. this one looks like a good game to play during a cold rainy day.
Can't stop playing... Wonderful game with tons of things to explore and unbelievable tactical ways to beat the game.
This game has nudged out a little groove in my brain for sure. Even when playing other games I will think about it and invariably quit to play more FTL. I've never even beaten the Rebel Ship (just cannot get past that third phase) but have unlocked several of the secret ships and some achievements.I enjoy seeing what will greet and possibly kill me at every new jump point.
I remember being not sure if I want to buy it, until it was on a sale for around 1.5 $ so I said screw it it bought it.
If I only knew how good this game is I would have happily pay the full price.
It's got the addiction treadmill effect. You just can't help it. It's like a drug.
It wears off, don't worry. Or do worry because it does so pretty hard. But then there are mods which really corrects many issues (unfortunately not most in my opinion)
