Hi,

I basically just started playing and am wondering whether I am not doing something right...

Whenever I set my ion cannon to autofire at the weapons system of the enemy without landing a shot first, it hits their shields instead.

But when I actually hit their weapons system and THEN turn on autofire, it keeps the proper target.

Am I not getting something about this mechanic?

The thing is, an ion weapon can't shoot through a shield the way a missile does. If there is an active shield, then the ion weapon will hit it and disable the shield room for a while.

So if you managed to hit their weapon system at all with an ion weapon, then it means the shield must've been down.

Ahhh, I see - that makes sense. Guess it was mere coincidence then that whenever I targeted manually, my combat drone just happened to shoot down their shields.

Thanks!
