Hello! Hope you're all doing OK.

I'm back into the 4-game Gold Box saga and after some research have found conflicting information on level caps for each game:

Pool of Radiance
Curse of the Azure Bonds
Secret of the Silver Blades
Pools of Darkness

I know there are racial limits for class levels as well.

1) Can someone please list the level caps for each game and the final level caps (in Pools of Darkness) and possibly each race?
2) Are those experience caps or truly level caps? I.e. if the level cap in a certain game is 9, does it mean a multi-class fighter/thief could possibly reach 9/9?

I'd be very happy to have that information,

Thank you!

They're true level caps. However, the level cap is class dependent. For example, in Pool of Radiance, Clerics and Mages can only reach level 6, even though other classes can level up further. (I feel that this is particularly unfair to Clerics, who don't even get their second healing spells, when the first one can heal only 1 HP if you get a bad roll; Mages aren't hurt as badly since they at least get their first big spell (Fireball), and it's not even the only good spell of that level.)
There are tables with all the details in the manuals or journals.

Pools of Darkness allows characters to level up to level 40, but only if the character is a human or a thief; otherwise, the character can't reach a high enough level to be useful there.

(Half-Elf Clerics can only reach level 5; that's so bad that they reach the limit in PoR. This matters because a level 6 Cleric can outright destroy weaker undead, which isn't possible at level 5.)
Hey, thanks all for the replies! Really active forum to this day, damn.
I did find some info on level caps on the manual (Pools of Darkness), but the Internet sometimes tells a different story.

Few more questions, please:
>> Can a multiclass OR dual class fighter/cleric use swords (bladed weapons) and bows, crossbows?
>> Does the Haste spell REALLY age party members and does that make it a bad idea to use it freely?
>> Any guides on how to use Dosbox-x so I can do some save/load states?

Thank you! :-D

My memory on these games is pretty old, but I think I have some answers for you:

msalgadosp: >> Can a multiclass OR dual class fighter/cleric use swords (bladed weapons) and bows, crossbows?
No - clerics (even multiclassed) are limited to blunt weapons only.

Yes it does. Some of the games have an Elixir of Youth I believe, which can alleviate the ageing. But generally you should probably save the Haste spell for especially tough battles.

In those games multiclass and dualclass fighter/cleric can use any weapons fighters can use, including swords, bows and crossbows. Haste does really age party members but age doesn't matter in those games.

Multiclass is limited to blunt weapons, but dual class clerics can use bladed after they surpass the level of the fighter class they switched from. i.e. You leveled your paladin to 15, then switched classes to cleric. That cleric would have to use blunt weapons until reaching level 16, then is treated as a fighter in terms of what gear he/she can wear/wield. FYI, having a paladin as the fighter class paired with the cleric is (IMHO) the only logical choice when multiclassing as the paladin brings spellcasting abilities as well.
