I'm new to gaming and have just bought some games from GOG. FO2 runs fine on my old PC running Windows 10. Using the direction buttons on the keyboard to change direction of the car for FO2 is most uncomfortable and awkward. First, can I get mouse or controller support for the game? If so, how would I set it up? There is a program called Key to Joy for configuring controllers; will this help? I've ordered an EasySMX ESM 9100 controller but it will be a couple of weeks before it arrives, and I've downloaded the driver from their website. It's a basic generic PC controller.

Hi,

I've never had a problem using the KB to move around the menu's. I don't believe they programmed the game with a mouse in mind so I don't think it's possible to use it. I use a wheel when playing and simply use the KB in the menus

Thank you for your advice; the keyboard is fine for menus, but using the keyboard to actually control the car is not at all easy. A wheel would be ideal, perhaps. I'll see how much they cost and hope they're not too expensive. OK, no mouse, but I'll continue trying to find out if a PC controller can be set up to control the cars.

You should be able to use a joystick but trust me, a wheel is MUCH better. I paid 400$ Canadian for my Logitech G29 but it's well worth it if you like racing games.

Thank you; there are cheaper wheels out there, but there can be issues with drivers (software not car drivers!) and the awful 6 monthly Windows 10 features updates.

If you stick to brand names, you should be fine. I started with joysticks back in the 90s and it was fun but once I moved to a FF wheel, life changed. It's so much more enjoyable and you actually have better control of the car.

Controllers that have XINPUT support (xinput makes pc recognize a controller as an xbox360 controller) Should work with flatout 2 . I don't know what controller you have but a good and cheap controller is the Logitech F310 that has a switch for Xinput and Dinput.

EDIT: Also check on pcgamingwiki (great website to check for fixes and controller support on different games ) https://www.pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/FlatOut_2 if you scroll down you will see they talk about controller support.
to enable a controller : Must be enabled in options and plugged in before launching; default controls are unintuitive but can be rebound in options.
But you have to press Enter to begin the race.

Thank you; I have a controller on order and I'll try this out first as good wheels are expensive. But people do say that a wheel gives a far better experience and I may get one in the end.

Yes if it is recognized as an Xbox one controller then it should have Xinput support.
