Out of curiosity, what order did you play the Fallout games in? And what order would you recommend playing them in?
Did you play from the start at number one, playing each new one on release? Or did you discover the series with Tactics? Or maybe you've only found the early games after all the hype from Fallout 3?
Thought this might be an interesting topic.
1,2,3, tactics.
chronologically though it's 1,tactics,2,3
First one I played was 2, then 1, then 3. I actually bought tactics before 3 came out but didn't have time to play it yet.
I played through Fallout 1 about two weeks ago, started playing Fallout 2 just days ago and am likely playing through it in the following ones, and I'll be getting Fallout 3 in one or two weeks. So everything's in perfect order :D
I have yet to play Tactics, even though I already have it. But as it is seemingly considered "non-canon" I think there is no problem with that.
I think if you only want to play either Fallout 1 or 2, definitely go with 2. Read some guide so the beginning won't be frustrating to you, but apart from that I'd say Fallout 2 is far superior to 1. But if you intend to play both of them, anyway, play them in order. There are a lot of nice references to Fallout 1 in the second game which are only all the nicer if you've actually played it :)
Also, I guess it's better to get annoyed by Fallout 1's shortcomings and then discover how Fallout 2 was improved quite a lot afterwards, instead of experiencing that first and then getting annoyed about the things Fallout 1 lacks :D

Yea that sounds like good advice Syrion. I've completed Fallout 3 this week (well, got almost all the achievements anyway), currently roleplaying through it for some good fun. I ordered the Fallout Collection online, and it should be here tomorrow. I think i'll start with one, then two, then possibly tactics. I'm going to stay far away from Wasteland though, sounds like a franchise killer.
1, 2, tactics 2 again.....2 again, tactics. Now 3
1, 2 and Tactics.
1, 2, Tactics, 3.
I didn't get to finish Fallout 1 until after I'd played the second one though. My first copy of Fallout 1 got lost while moving & it took me over a year to find another copy.
Played 1, then 2 but never finished (savegame crapped out in San Fran), and then 3. Actually, I'm replaying 1 on an old laptop, 2 on my desktop, and 3 on my xbox360 simultaneously. I'll pick up Tactics when I finish 1 or 2.
2, 2, 2, 2, 2, 2, 2, 2, 2, 2... Oh yeah I was unhappy with how 'imperfect' my character was. Constant remakes. Hahaha.
Then 1 once. Then Tactics a little bit (didn't finish). Then 3, 3, 3, 3, 3. Hahaha.
i bought Fallout 1 when it first came out (still have my original disk and instruction manual with the recipe for mushroom cloud cupcakes).
then i bought 2 when it first came out and played that a bit.
skipped the rest and i'm now playing Fallout 3. Thanks to GoG i was able to play the first 2 again after trying to get them to run on my machine for the last year and a half.
I played Fallout 1 way back when it first came out.
Played Fallout 2 when it came out next
Never played Tactics, wasnt interested in that.. nor have I played BOS (although I hear its atrociously uncanon, not goin gto touch that conversation though =P )
Played Fallout 3 (still playing it) when it came out.
If they continue to be fun, I'll continue to play. Fallout is a cool universe to mess around in.
1, 3, 2, tactics.
1, 2, 1, 2, 2, 2, 1, 2, 3, 2, 1, 2, 3, 2, 3
now tryin to find tactics and bos without spending alot of money any ideas besides gog?
