I recently bought the game off of GOG and here are my opinions. "also I did use the Vault-wiki for reference while playing so that's how I know so much extra" Also I played on normal difficulty.

Also I had only played Fallout 3 and New Vegas before this.
PROS
-it had a great setting and story
-moderately challenging at low levels "1-7 or so"
-enemies with miniguns can present a challenge if they crit you and bypass armor
-interesting NPC's
- alot of fun items to collect, I even found an elvis painting that I was compelled to never drop the entire game despite it's worthlessness.
-had a sense of doom that Fallout 3 and NV don't
-ability to make evil decisions unlike other rpg's like Planescape Torment.

CONS
-It's way too short for an rpg, It only took me give or take 15 hours to complete 80% of the side quests, reach level 20, and complete the main questline.
-far too easy late game with high luck "I ended up having every random encounter and getting the alien blaster"
-companions are completely worthless by mid-game and will get butchered
-The final boss is a joke, I killed him within 5 turns with the alien blaster, action boy (2) and less AP for ranged "or whatever it's called"
-I was able to literally wipe out every town in the game at level 15 including the brotherhood of steel.
-charisma was/is worthless and I wish I lowered it to 1 instead of 4.

Overall I did find it fun and enjoyed it but it was a bit too easy, I would have upped the difficulty but I like playing normal on every first playthrough, then again I tagged Energy weapons at the beginning of the game "I prefer them over guns in the newer games" AND I found the Alien Blaster, as you can imagine I was able to one shot super mutants 75% of the time and could attack 4 times a turn!!!!

Oh and I noticed that there were no children but there is a child killer perk on the site? But I was able to get bloody mess and literally shoot a guy in half, I don't think it's censored obviously so I don't understand why they were missing?

I just got Fallout 2 now and I heard it was much longer so I can't wait to try it.
Fallout 2 is longer and more difficult, but I suspect you'll find it easier than I did nevertheless. It sounds to me like you're actually pretty damn good at this.
You should try playing through Fallout 1 as a brilliant pacifist at least once. The diplomatic solutions are definitely worth your bother.

Also, did you learn the truth of the FEV when you were in the Glow? Again, in my opinion, very worthwhile.

re: Child Killer, yeah, you need to download a patch. As I understand it, GOG keeps the most current and updated version of a game. In the case of Fallout 1, though, the latest support and patching from Interplay was to the European version, wherein the sprites for children were edited out.
Oddly enough, the children are still there, just invisible. Means, if you really feel the need, you can just keep targeting people and shooting randomly with burst weapons hoping to catch invisible children in the crossfire.
Um, that said, I've never been that violent. Killing a child accidentally in battle is, sometimes, even a Load Game situation for me.
I agree, F2 is much longer...when I completed F1, I was like, thats it? lol

Basically F2 is 3x larger than F1...at least IMO
Something stirs in my chest whenever I hear of someone who's only played F3 and NV who acually starts playing and enjoys the old ones :p

I think you'll have loads of fun with Fallout 2 aswell, good luck!

lol, i too was a fallout 3 only guy...it actually went in this order

Fallout 3, then GOTY edition....then F1&F2 on gog.com...epic interplay sale ftw! and then Fallout NV...after playing NV, I can see where all the criticism draws from Fallout 3....IMO, Fallout NV should have been released when Fallout 3 was released....it would have scored very high among fallout fans
